KTM Unveils Updated 2027 Freeride E Electric Off-Roader

Austrian motorcycle giant KTM has officially revealed the 2027 Freeride E, a refined and upgraded version of its long-running electric enduro motorcycle. Building on more than a decade of experience with the Freeride E platform, the new model delivers noticeable improvements in power, efficiency, and usability while maintaining the lightweight, agile character that defines the lineup.

The 2027 Freeride E now comes as a fully street-legal machine, broadening its appeal for riders who want to mix technical off-road trails with occasional road use.

At the heart of the updates is a new 50.4V Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) that produces 19.2 kW (approximately 25.7 hp) of peak power and 37 Nm (37.6 Nm precisely) of torque. This represents a step up in peak output from the previous version, while the motor remains fully waterproof and dustproof. Riders benefit from instant, linear torque delivery with no clutch or gear shifts required.

Power can be tailored through three ride modes (ECO, NORMAL, and SPORT), complemented by three levels of regenerative braking to help extend riding time. The bike also features adjustable traction control and a rollover sensor for added safety and confidence on challenging terrain. Top speed is rated at 95 km/h (59 mph).

The Freeride E is powered by an upgraded 5.5 kWh MX50 lithium-ion battery weighing 29 kg. KTM claims this pack delivers 2 to 3 hours of typical enduro-style riding, depending on conditions and riding style. The battery is designed for exceptional durability, with a lifespan exceeding 1,000 charge cycles before capacity drops to 80%.

One practical highlight is the quick-removal design — the battery can be taken out in under 10 minutes, making swaps or maintenance straightforward. Charging takes around 8 hours with the standard 660W charger, or roughly 1.5 hours (0-100%) with the optional 3.3 kW fast charger.

Despite the added street-legal equipment (mirrors, indicators, etc.), KTM has kept the overall weight impressively low at just 112 kg. This makes the 2027 Freeride E one of the lightest electric off-road motorcycles in its class. The proven chrome-molybdenum steel frame is retained, paired with an aluminum and glass-fiber reinforced nylon subframe for optimal strength-to-weight balance.

Suspension duties are handled by the latest WP XACT front fork and XPLOR rear shock, offering 250 mm of travel up front. The bike rolls on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear aluminum wheels fitted with Michelin Enduro Medium tires, while Braktec brakes provide strong stopping power.

The Freeride E platform first appeared over ten years ago, and KTM has used that long development period to refine every aspect of the machine. The 2027 model focuses on real-world usability: quieter operation, lower maintenance demands, and a more integrated feel between the motor, chassis, and rider.

With its combination of strong performance, respectable range for trail riding, and feather-light weight, the new Freeride E positions itself as a versatile choice for riders seeking emission-free off-road fun without compromising on excitement.

The 2027 KTM Freeride E is expected to reach dealerships starting from late April 2026. This refreshed electric enduro reinforces KTM’s commitment to sustainable mobility while staying true to its “Ready to Race” heritage in the dirt.
