Kia has announced an upgrade for Carens Clavis EV owners in the form of a lifetime battery warranty which will offer enhanced ownership value for private buyers. Commencing with vehicles delivered from 1 August 2026, first private owners shall be entitled to standard 15 years/unlimited kilometres warranty on the high-voltage battery, replacing the earlier finite coverage and offering superior reassurance that the most crucial component of an electric vehicle (EV) will endure for the long-term.

While targeting to alleviate one of the principal concerns of potential EV buyers, namely the limited mileage and exorbitant replacement costs associated with the battery pack, Kia has announced an upgrade for Carens Clavis EV owners that will see the company extend the battery warranty to 15 years or unlimited kilometres for the vehicle’s first private owner. For those contemplating a long-term commitment to their purchase, this enhanced level of care is sure to help bolster confidence in the product.

Furthermore, to ensure that there is no disadvantage to those who have purchased the Carens Clavis EV prior to the aforementioned announcement, eligible buyers may choose to upgrade their existing battery warranty from the previous 8 years/1,60,000 kilometres to the full 15 year/unlimited-kilometre coverage by paying a nominal dealer processing fee of ₹3,400. This optional upgrade shall enable existing owners to enjoy the same benefits as the new vehicle buyers without having to make the switch to a fresh model.

Notably, the lifetime battery warranty shall be applicable only to the first private owner, with second owners and commercial users being entitled to the standard 8 year/1,60,000 km warranty. In other words, the enhanced coverage shall target EVs that are retained by a single owner for an extended period, as opposed to those that may be subject to higher mileage or change hands more frequently.

Beyond the obvious advantage of the inherent reassurance of the lifetime battery warranty, it is likely to have a favourable impact on the resale value of the Carens Clavis EV. Potential second owners may be inclined to purchase a vehicle that comes with the assurance of a longer manufacturer warranty, particularly as they would be able to utilise the full 15 years/unlimited kilometres of coverage that the initial buyer had opted for. In turn, this is likely to benefit both sets of buyers, as those considering an electric multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) will find it more appealing due to the reduced risk of being stuck with an expensive battery replacement at the end of the warranty period.

In a market where buyers are evaluating the total cost of ownership vis-a-vis range, charging infrastructure and other factors, Kia’s announcement is likely to prove advantageous to its efforts at capturing market share in India’s burgeoning EV space. More importantly, the company is sending out a strong signal of confidence in its products by standing firmly behind one of the most pivotal components of its EVs. As such, not only is Kia likely to attract more first-time EV buyers who are concerned about the value retention of their purchase, but also to improve its overall appeal with respect to the competition.

For existing Carens Clavis EV owners, the process to upgrade to the lifetime battery warranty is relatively straightforward, requiring only a visit to an authorised Kia dealer to verify eligibility and make the payment of the nominal processing fee, which shall entitle them to the aforementioned benefits. Thus, Kia has taken a major step towards improving its appeal amongst EV buyers in India, with the enhanced ownership value that comes with the 15 year/unlimited kilometres battery warranty being certain to benefit both existing and prospective buyers of the Carens Clavis EV.
