Kia India is all set to expand its portfolio into the premium three-row SUV segment with the highly anticipated Kia Sorento Hybrid. This will mark the brand’s first-ever seven-seater premium SUV in the Indian market, giving it a distinct and unique positioning above the popular Seltos and Carens.
A heavily camouflaged test mule of the Sorento Hybrid has been spied testing on Indian roads near Delhi for the first time. The sighting confirms that Kia is actively evaluating the SUV’s local performance, handling, and suitability for Indian conditions. The model is expected to launch in the second half of 2026 (H2 2026).
The Sorento will be Kia’s first hybrid offering in India, aligning with the company’s aggressive electrification plans. Kia has confirmed it will introduce the Sorento HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) along with a hybrid version of the Carnival MPV and the Syros EV by 2030 as part of its strategy to offer eight electrified vehicles in the country.
Positioned as a premium three-row SUV, the Sorento is expected to sit well above the Seltos in Kia’s Indian lineup. It will target buyers looking for a spacious, luxurious, and efficient family hauler that combines comfort with modern hybrid technology.
Globally, the latest Kia Sorento Hybrid features a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol hybrid powertrain producing around 227 hp combined. In India, it is likely to come with a similar strong-hybrid setup (possibly a 1.6L turbo hybrid), delivering good performance along with excellent fuel efficiency. A diesel variant may be introduced later, but the hybrid is expected to lead the launch.
This powertrain should offer a smooth driving experience, lower running costs, and better efficiency compared to traditional petrol or diesel rivals — an important factor in the premium SUV segment.
Though heavily disguised in the spy shots, the Sorento is known globally for its bold, boxy design with signature Kia elements like the Tiger Nose grille, sleek T-shaped LED headlights, and a commanding road presence. Inside, it is expected to offer:
- Premium 7-seater layout with flexible seating options
- Dual 12.3-inch panoramic displays (instrument cluster + infotainment)
- Advanced ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems)
- Premium materials, ambient lighting, and high-end comfort features
- Rotary gear selector (typical of hybrid models)
The third row is expected to be more usable than many competitors, making it ideal for large families or long highway trips.
The Kia Sorento Hybrid is likely to be priced in the ₹30 – 40 lakh (ex-showroom) range, depending on variants and features. It will directly challenge established players in the premium 7-seater SUV space, including:
- Toyota Fortuner
- Skoda Kodiaq
- Jeep Meridian
- Mahindra XUV700 (higher variants)
Its hybrid powertrain could give it an edge in terms of refinement and efficiency over pure diesel rivals.
With the Sorento, Kia aims to attract customers who want a more premium and feature-rich alternative to body-on-frame SUVs, while enjoying the benefits of hybrid technology. The combination of spacious 7-seater comfort, modern design, advanced features, and lower emissions makes it a strong contender in the evolving Indian SUV market. The Sorento Hybrid is expected to play a key role in Kia’s ambition to significantly grow its sales in India over the coming years.
