The second-generation Kia Seltos hybrid has been spotted undergoing high-altitude testing in the European Alps, marking a key step as the electrified variant prepares for its wider global rollout later in 2026. The hybrid is expected to reach select European markets and the United States in the coming months, with an India launch most likely in 2027.In several European markets, the new Seltos is already on sale with a conventional 1.6-litre T-GDi petrol engine. The hybrid version uses a related but distinct 1.6-litre GDI petrol-electric setup. It pairs the petrol engine with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack. In the Korean-specification model (already on sale), the system delivers a combined 141 PS and approximately 265 Nm of torque. Transmission is handled by a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
European hybrid figures are higher: the front-wheel-drive version is rated at 154 PS, while the e-AWD variant (which adds a rear electric motor for all-wheel drive) reaches 178 PS. This e-AWD system is a first for a Kia hybrid and enables precise torque distribution. The hybrid also introduces Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability—the first time Hyundai Motor Group has applied this EV-derived feature to a hybrid—along with an updated Smart Regenerative Braking System.Exterior design and most features remain largely consistent with the standard petrol Seltos. The hybrid focuses on improved efficiency and everyday usability rather than major visual changes.
For India, the hybrid is expected in 2027 and is likely to use a different powertrain based on the local 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with hybrid components. This approach aims to prioritise fuel efficiency and competitive pricing against rivals such as the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder, while existing petrol and diesel options continue. Exact Indian specifications, pricing, and features have not been confirmed.
The testing phase and upcoming launches reflect Kia’s broader push toward electrified powertrains across its popular compact SUV. As more details emerge closer to market introductions, the Seltos hybrid is positioned to expand the model’s appeal in efficiency-focused segments worldwide.
