JSW MG Motor India has quietly introduced a new fleet-focused version of its popular MG Windsor EV, named the Commute EV. This variant is priced at ₹13.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and is aimed specifically at cab aggregators, fleet operators, and commercial users who need a reliable, cost-effective electric vehicle for daily passenger transport.
Unlike the standard passenger-oriented Windsor EV models, the Commute EV has been positioned as a more affordable option in the lineup. It is currently about ₹60,800 cheaper than the updated base Excite variant of the Windsor EV (which now starts around ₹14.10 lakh after recent adjustments). The company has added the Commute variant’s pricing directly to the official Windsor EV brochure without any major marketing campaign or launch event
The Commute EV shares the same mechanicals as the regular Windsor EV’s base models. It comes equipped with a 37.9 kWh battery pack paired with a single electric motor producing 136 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque. According to ARAI certification, it offers a range of approximately 332 km on a full charge. In real-world fleet conditions — with multiple passengers, air conditioning, and varied city/highway usage — operators can realistically expect 200–250 km per charge, depending on driving style and load.
MG has not yet released a full feature list for the Commute EV, but early indications suggest it is a stripped-down, practical version designed to keep acquisition and operating costs low for high-mileage commercial use. It is likely to feature:
- Essential safety equipment (such as multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, and electronic stability control)
- Basic comfort and convenience items
- Fewer luxury or tech-heavy additions compared to higher Windsor variants (such as the large panoramic sunroof, premium audio system, or advanced driver displays)
This simplification helps reduce the overall price while maintaining the core strengths of the Windsor platform — spacious cabin, comfortable ride quality, and proven electric powertrain.
By launching the Commute EV, JSW MG Motor India is directly targeting the growing demand for electric taxis and fleet vehicles in India. Many cab operators are actively shifting to EVs to benefit from lower running costs, government incentives, and stricter emission norms in major cities. The Commute variant’s competitive pricing makes it an attractive proposition against other electric options in the segment. The model is badged simply as “Commute” rather than carrying the full Windsor nameplate, helping it stand out as a dedicated commercial offering.
Full details on equipment levels, exact differences from the standard Windsor EV, and delivery timelines are still awaited. Interested fleet operators are advised to contact MG dealerships for more information, as this variant appears tailored for bulk or B2B purchases.
With the Commute EV, MG has expanded its electric portfolio to cover both individual buyers (through the regular Windsor EV range, including Battery-as-a-Service options) and commercial users. This move strengthens the company’s presence in India’s rapidly evolving EV market, where practicality and total cost of ownership matter most for fleet applications.
