India’s electric two-wheeler market continued its rapid expansion in July 2026, marking a major milestone as sales crossed the two-lakh unit mark for the first time.
According to Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) retail registration data, electric scooter and motorcycle sales reached 2,04,362 units in July. This represents an 88.32% year-on-year surge from 1,08,516 units registered in July 2025. On a month-on-month basis, volumes rose 4.82% from 1,94,963 units in June 2026. The strong performance pushed electric two-wheelers to a record 11.24% share of India’s overall two-wheeler market, underscoring the accelerating shift toward cleaner mobility.
The landmark figure of over two lakh units highlights sustained consumer interest driven by improving product offerings, expanding charging infrastructure, attractive financing options, and supportive government policies. Both electric scooters and motorcycles contributed to the volume growth, reflecting broader acceptance across urban and semi-urban segments.
Industry observers note that the consistent month-on-month improvement, combined with nearly doubling year-on-year sales, points to a maturing market rather than a one-off spike. With electric vehicles now accounting for more than one in ten two-wheelers sold, manufacturers are expected to intensify model launches, network expansion, and localization efforts to capitalize on the momentum.
July’s data reinforces India’s position as one of the world’s fastest-growing electric two-wheeler markets, setting a strong foundation for the second half of the fiscal year.
