Hyundai Kicks Off 2026 with a Bold Electric Push: World Premiere of Its Largest EV at Brussels Motor Show

As the automotive world turns its attention to the new year, Hyundai is gearing up for an exciting start to 2026. The South Korean manufacturer has confirmed it will unveil its largest electric vehicle to date at the Brussels Motor Show, running from January 9 to 18, 2026. This world premiere marks the beginning of Hyundai’s ambitious EV rollout for the year and underscores its continued commitment to electrification, particularly in the European market.

The new model will take the top spot in Hyundai’s current EV lineup, which spans from the compact Inster city car to the spacious three-row Ioniq 9 SUV. While full technical details are still under wraps, Hyundai has revealed that the flagship EV will incorporate advanced electric architecture, including an 800-volt charging system. This technology promises significantly faster charging times, greater efficiency, and better performance — key advantages for a larger vehicle where battery demands are higher.

Hyundai’s official statement describes the new EV as a “supplement” to its existing range, hinting at a vehicle that expands beyond traditional SUVs into new formats. Many industry observers and reports point to this being a fully electric version of the Staria people mover (also known as a large MPV or van). The current Staria, already measuring over 5.25 meters in length, is bigger than the Ioniq 9, and rumors of an electric variant have circulated since mid-2024. It could position Hyundai as a strong contender in the growing electric van and family transport segment, competing with models like the Volkswagen ID.Buzz and upcoming offerings from Kia and Mercedes.

Hyundai has released a teaser image showing a distinctive horizontal light band and the brand logo, which aligns with the Staria’s futuristic, spaceship-like styling.

Adding to the excitement at the Brussels Motor Show, Hyundai will also present the updated Ioniq 6 electric sedan for the first time at a European motor show. The refreshed model features subtle aerodynamic enhancements for improved efficiency, along with upgrades to interior technology, digital interfaces, and overall user experience. This mid-cycle update builds on the Ioniq 6’s reputation as one of the most efficient and stylish EVs available, with potential refinements to range, performance, and connectivity.

The debut will take place during a press conference on January 9 at 10:00 AM at Hyundai’s stand (Palais 6, Booth 6.06), led by Raf Van Nuffel, Vice President of Product at Hyundai Motor Europe. He is expected to share more insights into the brand’s 2026 EV strategy and how it addresses growing demand for sustainable mobility in Europe.

Hyundai’s presence will extend beyond these highlights, with a dedicated N Zone showcasing high-performance models like the Ioniq 5 N and Ioniq 6 N, plus an interactive arcade area featuring the INSTEROID concept — a playful, gaming-inspired take on the Inster EV.

With over 64 brands participating and expectations of more than 300,000 visitors, the Brussels Motor Show remains a key platform for major reveals. Hyundai’s bold moves signal a strong push into larger, more practical EVs, reinforcing its position as a leader in Europe’s electrification transition. Stay tuned for full details from the January 9 premiere — 2026 is shaping up to be a landmark year for Hyundai’s electric ambitions!
