Hyundai Motor India has officially confirmed that it will launch its next electric SUV in the Indian market during the ongoing financial year (FY27). The announcement, which many appear to have missed, was tucked into the company’s recent press release focused on charging infrastructure expansion.

In its latest communication regarding the strengthening of its EV charging network, Hyundai India clearly stated its plans to introduce a new electric SUV in India within FY2026-27. This upcoming model is expected to sit in the fast-growing electric mid-size SUV segment and will join the existing Ioniq 5 and upcoming models in Hyundai’s growing electric portfolio. While the company has not yet revealed the name or exact specifications, industry sources suggest it could be a localised, India-specific electric SUV designed to address the needs of Indian customers — offering strong range, fast charging capability, and competitive pricing.

Hyundai’s commitment aligns with its investor presentation from last year, which outlined an aggressive electric vehicle roadmap for India. The presentation highlighted plans for multiple EV launches, including fully electric models tailored for the Indian market, with a strong focus on SUVs — the highest-selling body style in the country. Hyundai aims to leverage its global EV technology (E-GMP platform and beyond) while optimising costs through localisation to make its electric vehicles more accessible.

The confirmation of the new e-SUV came alongside Hyundai’s update on charging infrastructure. The company is actively expanding its fast-charging network across India to support both existing and upcoming EV customers. This integrated approach — launching new EVs while simultaneously building charging support — signals Hyundai’s serious long-term commitment to the Indian EV market.

The upcoming Hyundai electric SUV is likely to feature:

  • Competitive range (expected 400–600 km depending on battery variant)
  • Fast-charging capability
  • Advanced safety and connected car features
  • Family-friendly SUV styling and practicality

It will compete with strong rivals such as the Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra XUV 9e, Kia Syros EV, and MG’s upcoming electric offerings.

After the successful launch of the Ioniq 5, Hyundai is now preparing to broaden its appeal with more affordable and mass-market electric vehicles. The company is aiming to capitalise on the rising EV demand in India, which is projected to see overall penetration reach 10-12% by FY27.

Hyundai India’s confirmation of a new electric SUV launch this financial year is a significant development. It shows the company’s confidence in the Indian EV story and its readiness to fight for a larger share of the growing electric market.
