Hyundai Creta Electric Gets Software Update, Unlocks Faster 100 DC Fast Charging

Hyundai has delivered a significant upgrade to its Creta Electric SUV, rolling out a software update that unlocks support for up to 100 kW DC fast charging—a major leap from the previous maximum of 50 kW. This enhancement promises substantially quicker charging sessions, making the popular electric SUV even more practical for daily use and longer trips in India’s evolving EV landscape.

The news first surfaced through enthusiastic reports from owners on platforms like Team-BHP, where BHPian RoJu—a well-known Creta Electric owner who has shared detailed real-world experiences—highlighted that service centers across India are actively contacting customers to schedule the update. The over-the-air (OTA) capable rollout involves key modules such as the Vehicle Control Unit (VCU), Battery Management Unit/System (BMU/BMS), and others, ensuring seamless integration without major hardware changes.

Early real-world testing post-update has shown impressive results. In one documented case, a 42 kWh variant of the Creta Electric, when connected to a 180 kW DC charger, achieved peak charging rates of around 56 kW—a clear step up from the pre-update ceiling of about 36 kW. Hyundai officially claims the update reduces the 10–80% charge time from approximately 58 minutes (at 50 kW) to around 39 minutes on compatible higher-power chargers, depending on factors like battery temperature, ambient conditions, and charger output.

The Creta Electric continues to offer two battery pack options:

  • 42 kWh — delivering a claimed range of up to 420 km (with 133 bhp output).
  • 51.4 kWh — providing up to 510 km (with 169 bhp for stronger performance).

Both variants now benefit from this charging boost, which aligns with Hyundai’s strategy to future-proof the model. Launched earlier with 50 kW DC support as standard, the Creta Electric was designed with hardware capable of handling higher rates, and this software unlock realizes that potential—much like similar OTA enhancements seen in other global EVs.

This move comes at a timely moment for India’s EV market, where faster charging is a key barrier to wider adoption. With growing networks of 60–150+ kW public chargers, the Creta Electric owners can now spend less time plugged in and more time on the road. Hyundai has confirmed the update will roll out in phases via OTA for eligible vehicles, while service centers handle initial activations for broader coverage.

For existing and prospective buyers, this upgrade enhances the Creta Electric’s value proposition in a competitive segment that includes models like the Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra XEV 9e, and MG Windsor EV. It underscores Hyundai’s commitment to continuous improvement through software, turning a solid launch product into an even more compelling everyday EV.

As charging infrastructure expands and software-driven enhancements become the norm, updates like this are helping bridge the gap between early EV limitations and mainstream usability—proving once again that electric mobility gets better over time, literally with a download. Owners are advised to check with their nearest Hyundai service center or monitor OTA notifications for availability in their region.
