As India accelerates its transition to electric mobility, Honda is preparing to make a bold statement with its first fully electric offering in the country. The Japanese automaker will introduce its flagship 0 Series electric SUV in India later in 2026, following global production starting in the first half of the year. This premium model, first showcased as a prototype at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, will serve as a halo product, highlighting Honda’s advanced EV technology and design philosophy.
The 0 Series SUV is built on an all-new dedicated EV platform developed in-house by Honda, emphasizing the brand’s “Thin, Light, and Wise” approach — delivering efficiency, lightweight construction, and intelligent features without compromising on space or driving joy.
The production-spec electric SUV will feature an 80–90 kWh NMC battery pack — engineered to be up to six percent thinner than competing packs — enabling better packaging, reduced weight, and enhanced efficiency. This setup is expected to deliver a real-world range of around 482 km per charge (based on early estimates and global projections targeting ~300 miles EPA equivalent).
Buyers can look forward to flexible drivetrain options, including rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations, powered by Honda’s compact e-axles for superior handling and performance. The vehicle will run on Honda’s innovative ASIMO OS software system — named after the iconic humanoid robot — promising intelligent, adaptive features, seamless connectivity, over-the-air updates, and advanced integration of driver assistance systems.
The 0 Series SUV will arrive in India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) import, positioning it firmly in the premium segment with a higher price tag compared to locally produced EVs. Globally, it is expected to include Level-3 ADAS capabilities (eyes-off driving in certain conditions), though it remains to be seen whether this advanced autonomy will be offered in the Indian market due to regulatory and infrastructural factors.
This launch marks Honda’s strategic push into India’s growing EV space, where it will compete against established players like Tata, MG, Hyundai, and Mahindra in the premium electric SUV category. The 0 Series SUV will act as a technology showcase, paving the way for more accessible models.
