Gujarat Launches India’s First Cybersecurity-Certified Electric Bus Fleet in Ahmedabad

In a significant step toward modernizing urban mobility in Gujarat, the Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Corporation (AMTC) has rolled out a fresh batch of electric buses after subjecting them to a comprehensive cybersecurity audit. The audit was carried out by GlobalLogic (a Hitachi Group company) in collaboration with its strategic partner, IRCLASS Systems and Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (ISSPL).Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel formally flagged off the new fleet on February 13, 2026. The state government hailed the launch as a key element of its strategy to build a secure, digitally advanced public transport network that prioritizes both sustainability and safety

This initiative stands out as India’s first instance of mandatory cybersecurity and safety audits for electric buses before their deployment. The assessment focused on the connected systems within the buses, including the Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS) with GPS tracking, passenger information displays, and other digital interfaces.

By conducting these audits upfront, AMTC aims to safeguard the vehicles against potential cyber threats that could compromise operations, passenger data, or overall system integrity in an increasingly connected mobility ecosystem.

The inaugural rollout featured 28 advanced Midi AC electric buses, forming the initial tranche of a larger plan to introduce 225 such vehicles. These buses are fully air-conditioned and designed to deliver comfortable, eco-friendly rides across Ahmedabad’s routes.Key highlights include:

  • Zero-emission operation to help curb air pollution and reduce the city’s carbon footprint.
  • State-of-the-art safety features combined with robust cybersecurity protocols.
  • Integration of modern ITMS for real-time tracking and better passenger experience.

This deployment aligns with AMTC’s broader ambition to transition its entire fleet to electric buses by 2030, supported by government schemes like PM E-DRIVE.

The involvement of GlobalLogic and ISSPL underscores the growing emphasis on technology resilience in India’s EV transition. As public transport systems become smarter and more interconnected, ensuring cybersecurity is no longer optional but essential.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s launch of the fleet reflects Gujarat’s proactive stance in blending green mobility with digital security. Officials noted that the audited buses will contribute to lowering CO₂ emissions significantly while offering citizens a reliable and future-ready commuting option.

With plans for further expansion—including hundreds more electric buses in the coming phases—Ahmedabad is positioning itself as a model for secure, sustainable urban transport in the country. This development not only advances environmental goals but also sets a benchmark for other Indian cities looking to electrify their bus fleets without compromising on digital safety.
