EKA Mobility, a prominent player in India’s electric vehicle sector and a subsidiary of Pinnacle Industries, has taken a significant step forward in advancing sustainable public transportation. The company has commenced the deployment of 100 electric buses for the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) in Odisha, marking a key milestone in the state’s push toward greener mobility.
The initiative, which began in early 2026, introduces EKA Mobility’s EKA 9M electric bus model to Odisha’s public transport fleet. These 9-meter buses are designed for urban and semi-urban routes, featuring a seating capacity of approximately 35 passengers along with provisions for wheelchair accessibility to ensure inclusivity. Each bus is powered by a robust 213 kW electric motor and equipped with a 200 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, known for its safety, longevity, and performance in diverse operating conditions.
The deployment is being carried out in partnership with Travel Time Mobility Pvt. Ltd., the operator for CRUT’s electric bus services. The buses will primarily serve the capital region, including major hubs such as Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and surrounding areas, improving connectivity while reducing reliance on fossil fuel-based transport.
This rollout aligns with broader national and state-level goals to promote zero-emission public transport under schemes like PM e-Bus Sewa and other green mobility initiatives. Odisha’s Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi virtually flagged off the buses, highlighting the project’s role in enhancing urban mobility, cutting emissions, and supporting cleaner air in the region.
EKA Mobility has emphasized that the project strengthens CRUT’s overall public transport network by integrating emission-free vehicles. The buses are expected to deliver reliable, efficient, and environmentally friendly service, contributing to reduced noise pollution and lower operational costs over time compared to traditional diesel buses.
As part of related efforts, EKA Mobility has also collaborated with CRUT, Travel Time Mobility, and organizations like GIZ to conduct specialized training programs. Notably, in February 2026, the company successfully trained 20 women as electric bus drivers through a two-week skill development program, promoting gender inclusion in the EV workforce and preparing them to operate the new fleet.
This deployment of 100 EKA electric buses represents a concrete advancement in India’s accelerating transition to electric mass mobility. It underscores growing momentum in states like Odisha, where public-private partnerships are driving large-scale adoption of sustainable transport solutions. With ongoing expansions and similar projects across the country, EKA Mobility continues to position itself as a leader in electrifying India’s bus fleets.
