BYD has officially teased its premium Denza brand for the Indian market, confirming plans to introduce the marque through a dedicated network of standalone dealerships modelled closely on the MG Select experience. Much like MG Motor’s exclusive Select outlets that offer a more upscale retail environment separate from regular showrooms, Denza will operate independently, allowing the Chinese giant to position the brand firmly in the luxury segment without diluting its mainstream BYD identity.
The strategy mirrors the approach taken by MG, where Select dealerships create a distinct premium atmosphere complete with elevated customer service, exclusive product focus and a carefully curated ownership journey. BYD appears determined to replicate that model so that Denza can compete head-on with established luxury players while leveraging the parent company’s rapidly expanding manufacturing and battery expertise in India.
Two dramatically different vehicles will lead the Denza charge. The first is the D9, a full-size luxury electric MPV designed to challenge the MG M9 directly. Offering spacious three-row seating, high-end materials, advanced driver-assistance systems and the refined ride expected of a true luxury people-mover, the D9 aims to redefine the electric MPV category in India. With its emphasis on comfort, technology and zero-emission performance, it is positioned as a sophisticated alternative for families and executives who currently look at the MG M9 or imported luxury vans.
The second model could not be more different. The Denza Z9 GT is an all-electric hypercar claimed to deliver a staggering 1,140 bhp, making it the most powerful production car ever offered in India. Combining blistering acceleration with advanced chassis dynamics and cutting-edge battery technology, the Z9 GT is set to rewrite performance benchmarks in the country. Its arrival will place Denza at both extremes of the automotive spectrum, from serene luxury people-carrier to extreme high-performance machine.
By launching these two contrasting models through exclusive standalone dealerships, BYD is signalling serious intent to carve out a distinct premium identity for Denza in India. The brand’s dual-pronged attack—comfort-oriented luxury on one side and record-breaking power on the other—promises to shake up the market in ways few expected from a single new entrant.
