BMW Group India Surpasses 5,000 EV Deliveries Milestone, Unveils 4,000 km High-Power Charging Corridor

In a remarkable achievement underscoring its dominance in the luxury electric vehicle (EV) segment, BMW Group India has crossed the 5,000 EV deliveries mark, becoming the first luxury carmaker in the country to reach this milestone. Announced on August 22, 2025, this feat highlights the brand’s unwavering commitment to e-mobility and sustainable luxury. To celebrate, BMW has inaugurated a pioneering 4,000 km high-power charging corridor spanning from Jammu in the north to Madurai in the south, designed to alleviate range anxiety and facilitate seamless long-distance EV travel across India.

For the past three years, BMW Group India has held the top spot in luxury EV sales, a leadership position reinforced in the first half of 2025. Between January and June, the company delivered 1,322 BMW and MINI electric vehicles, marking a staggering 234% year-on-year growth. EVs now constitute 18% of BMW Group India’s total sales, reflecting the accelerating shift toward electrification in the premium market. Key models driving this success include the BMW iX1 Long Wheelbase, the best-selling electric SUV, and the flagship BMW i7 sedan, which secured second place.

“This achievement is not just a number; it represents our unwavering commitment to e-mobility and pioneering spirit in the premium EV landscape,” said Vikram Pawah, President and CEO of BMW Group India. “At BMW, luxury and performance are delivered seamlessly with sustainability, and our electric products embody this philosophy. With our new high-power charging corridor, EV customers can now enjoy Sheer Driving Pleasure without a second thought.”

BMW Group India’s EV lineup is the widest in the luxury segment, encompassing six electric cars: the BMW i7, iX, i5, i4, iX1 Long Wheelbase, and MINI Countryman Electric, alongside electric scooters like the BMW CE 04 and CE 02. This diverse portfolio caters to varied preferences, from compact urban commuters to full-size luxury sedans. The BMW iX1 Long Wheelbase, made exclusively for India and locally assembled at BMW’s Chennai plant, has emerged as the top seller. Priced at an introductory Rs 49 lakh (ex-showroom), it features a 66.4 kWh battery paired with a single front-mounted electric motor producing 204 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. This setup delivers a claimed MIDC range of 531 km, with a 0-100 kmph sprint in 8.6 seconds and a top speed of 175 kmph. The extended wheelbase of 2,800 mm (108 mm longer than the standard iX1) enhances rear-seat space, making it ideal for family use, while features like adaptive LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system add to its appeal. Its real-world range in mixed conditions is around 398-470 km, supported by DC fast charging up to 130 kW (10-80% in 29 minutes) and an included 11 kW AC wallbox for home use.

Close behind is the flagship BMW i7, a full-size electric sedan priced from Rs 2.03 crore to Rs 2.50 crore (ex-showroom). Available in variants like the eDrive50 (449 bhp, 625 km WLTP range), xDrive60 (544 bhp, 591-625 km range), and M70 xDrive (650 bhp, 560 km range), it boasts a 101.7 kWh battery and dual-motor all-wheel drive in higher trims. The i7 accelerates from 0-100 kmph in as little as 3.7 seconds (M70) and supports 195 kW DC fast charging (10-80% in 34 minutes). Its opulent interior features a 31.3-inch rear theatre screen, Bowers & Wilkins audio, and executive lounge seating, making it a benchmark for luxury EVs. In H1 2025, the i7’s strong performance contributed significantly to BMW’s sales surge, appealing to buyers seeking unparalleled sophistication.

To complement this milestone, BMW Group India has launched a high-power charging corridor covering 4,000 km along major national highways, connecting key cities such as Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Pune, Hubballi, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, and Madurai. Chargers are strategically placed every 300 km, with capacities ranging from 120 kW to 720 kW, enabling rapid charging for modern EVs. These stations, located near public amenities like cafes and restaurants, allow drivers to relax or enjoy in-car entertainment during stops.

Operated in partnership with leading providers like Statiq and Zeon, the corridor is open to all EV brands, promoting broader e-mobility adoption. Integration with the myBMW app and in-car systems provides real-time charger availability, route planning, capacity filters, and nearby amenities. BMW’s Charging Concierge service offers on-call assistance for journey planning and unified payments, eliminating the need for multiple apps.

This initiative builds on BMW’s existing network of nearly 300 Destination Chargers at premium hotels, resorts, and malls, plus access to over 6,000 public points nationwide through collaborations. It addresses a key barrier to EV ownership—range anxiety—while supporting inter-city and intra-city travel. “The corridor ensures smooth electric movement without concerns for range or charging availability,” Pawah added.
