Bajaj Auto is gearing up for an exciting start to 2026 with the launch of a new Chetak electric scooter model on January 14. The company has sent out invitations teasing the upcoming variant, spotlighting a revamped rear design that promises to bring fresh appeal to one of India’s most popular electric scooters.
The highlight of the teaser is the new horizontal LED taillight, a significant departure from the current model’s split LED setup. The existing design features vertical taillights on either side with the Chetak badge centered between them. In contrast, the updated version integrates a sleek, single-piece horizontal LED strip, complete with indicators at both ends and the iconic Chetak branding positioned above it. This change gives the rear a cleaner, more modern look while retaining the scooter’s signature neo-retro charm.
The overall design is expected to receive subtle refreshes, potentially including minor tweaks to panels, seating, or other elements, while building on the Chetak’s timeless modern-retro styling. For reference, here’s the classic side profile of the current Bajaj Chetak:
This new model arrives at a time when the Bajaj Chetak has firmly established itself as a top contender in India’s booming electric scooter market. In 2025, Bajaj sold just under 2.70 lakh units of the Chetak, securing a strong 21 percent market share in the e-scooter segment. The scooter frequently battled for the top spot with the TVS iQube, with both models delivering record performances and consistently ranking among the highest sellers. The Chetak’s success stems from its blend of premium metal-bodied construction, reliable performance, practical range (offered with 3kWh and 3.5kWh battery options for up to 153km), and Bajaj’s vast service network. Despite occasional supply chain challenges, the model crossed key milestones and helped Bajaj capture growing consumer trust in electric mobility.
The upcoming launch is anticipated to introduce a more accessible variant—possibly with cost-optimizing changes like a hub-mounted motor, simpler features, and competitive pricing—to broaden its reach while intensifying competition against rivals like TVS, Ola, and Ather.
With the electric two-wheeler market continuing to surge, this refreshed Chetak could further solidify Bajaj’s position and set the tone for more EV innovations from the brand in 2026. Stay tuned for the full reveal on January 14!
