Ather Rizta Surpasses 2 Lakh Sales Milestone: A Triumph for Family Electric Scooters in India

Ather Energy, one of India’s leading electric two-wheeler manufacturers, has achieved a remarkable feat with its family-oriented electric scooter, the Ather Rizta. Launched in April 2024, the Rizta has officially crossed the 2 lakh (200,000) unit sales mark, solidifying its status as a mass-market sensation and the company’s top-selling model. This milestone is particularly impressive given the accelerated pace of growth. The Rizta reached its first 1 lakh sales in May 2025 – just over a year after launch. The second 1 lakh units were sold in a mere six months, highlighting surging demand across the country.

The Ather Rizta now accounts for over 70% of Ather Energy’s total sales, outperforming the brand’s popular 450 series and becoming its fastest-growing product. This shift underscores a broader trend in India’s electric two-wheeler market: a move toward practical, family-friendly scooters over performance-oriented models.Ravneet Singh Phokela, Chief Business Officer at Ather Energy, commented on the achievement:

“Rizta has been on a roll from the very beginning, expanding our addressable market and enabling us to expand distribution aggressively, especially in Middle and North India.”

The scooter’s success has driven significant geographic expansion for Ather, traditionally strong in southern India. Key market share gains include:

  • Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh: From ~7% in Q1 FY2026 to 14-15% in Q3 FY2026 (till November 2025)
  • Punjab: From 8% to 15%
  • Uttar Pradesh: From 4% to 10%

Ather has also expanded its retail network to 524 Experience Centres as of September 30, 2025, and the company recently surpassed 5 lakh cumulative electric scooter sales nationwide, per Vahan and Telangana vehicle data. Why the Rizta Resonates with Indian BuyersPriced competitively starting around ₹1.05-1.15 lakh (ex-showroom, depending on variant), the Rizta offers excellent value compared to 125-150cc petrol scooters, with the added benefits of low running costs and zero emissions.Key features that have fueled its popularity:

  • Class-leading storage: 34 litres under-seat, expandable to 56 litres with optional frunk
  • Range options: Up to 159 km (IDC) with the 3.7 kWh battery
  • Safety tech: SkidControl (traction control), Fall Safe, Emergency Stop Signal, theft & tow alerts
  • Recent updates: New colours like Terracotta Red, Rizta S variant with larger battery, and touchscreen dashboard for the Z trim (announced at Ather Community Day 2025)

The Rizta competes directly with models like the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, and Ola S1 Pro, but its focus on comfort, space, and family usability has clearly struck a chord.

With the Rizta now available in international markets like Nepal and Sri Lanka, and Ather continuing to bolster its fast-charging network (over 4,300 chargers globally), the brand is well-positioned for further growth. This milestone not only cements the Rizta’s place as a bestseller but also signals strong momentum for premium yet practical electric scooters in India’s evolving EV landscape. Ather Energy’s pivot to family-oriented products with the Rizta has paid off handsomely, proving that practicality can drive mass adoption in the electric era.
