Ampere has done a good job of updating the Nexus with the launch of the new Nexus EX+. The electric scooter now comes in two variants with the base model Nexus EX+ priced at ₹1,29,999 while the Intellipack connected version is priced at ₹1,35,999. That said, buyers can choose the fully connected version for an additional ₹6,000. At the core of the update is a more powerful 5 kW motor that produces 202 Nm of wheel torque.
The motor allows the scooter to accelerate from 0 to 40 km/h in just 4.5 seconds which is good for city commutes, flyovers, and light load-hauling. Ampere claims a range of 136 km on a single charge which should be adequate for day-to-day commuting without the need for frequent stops to recharge. The mid-mounted motor also helps in balancing the weight of the scooter, resulting in improved roadholding capabilities.
The connected variant, Intellipack, offers a host of connected features via the Ampere Connect App including tracking and geo-fencing, real-time charging, navigation and vehicle diagnostics. The app also offers trip reports, energy insights, battery health and service booking options. Both the variants come with an IP65 rated water-resistant charger that should be able to handle the monsoon downpours without any issues. On the hardware side, the Nexus EX+ gets a dual-frame steel chassis that promises long-term durability while also being able to handle daily commutes of up to 200 kg.
The scooter also handles inclines and rough roads with ease without compromising on the comfort of the passengers. The battery pack uses an LFP chemistry that is known to offer superior thermal stability and longer life. Ampere claims that the battery can last up to 200,000 km with a battery warranty of 5 years or 75,000 km on the battery. On the visual department, the Nexus EX+ is available in the Carbon Knight and the Steel Grey colour options. With the update, Ampere manages to position the Nexus EX+ as a premium product in the entry-level performance EV category while also keeping the prices in check.
