Tata Motors has equipped the Sierra.ev with an expanded version of DrivePay that lets drivers order food and recharge FASTag using simple voice commands, transforming the electric SUV’s infotainment system into a more capable everyday companion. The feature comes through DrivePay, the in-car payment platform developed with ToneTag. DrivePay itself is not new. Tata first introduced it on the Harrier.ev for EV charging and FASTag payments. What changes on the Sierra.ev is the addition of a voice-led commerce layer.
That means the driver can now use the infotainment system for more than navigation and entertainment. The car can act on a voice request, use route and destination information to surface relevant services, and complete certain transactions without the driver moving between multiple phone apps. Blue Tokai Coffee has become the first merchant partner, allowing occupants to order a coffee through spoken instructions that the system processes, confirms preferences, calculates the total and completes the UPI payment securely via DrivePay. Once confirmed, the order is ready for pickup at the chosen outlet with minimal disruption to the journey.
The same voice interface supports FASTag recharges, so drivers can top up their accounts without reaching for a smartphone or switching apps. The system also helps identify payment-ready EV charging stations along the planned route, enabling seamless payments for charging sessions directly from the dashboard. Because DrivePay is natively integrated into the Sierra.ev’s large touchscreen and works with the vehicle’s connected ecosystem, the experience remains contextual and hands-free, reducing the need to look away from the road or juggle devices.
This expansion reflects Tata’s broader push to make its electric vehicles feel more like intelligent platforms than mere transport. By combining secure in-car payments, route awareness and natural voice interaction, DrivePay on the Sierra.ev aims to remove small friction points that accumulate during daily drives and longer trips. As more merchants join the platform over time, the cabin is positioned to handle an increasing range of everyday transactions, keeping the focus where it belongs—on the road ahead.
