BMW India has opened bookings for the all-new i5 Long Wheelbase, positioning it as the only long-wheelbase luxury electric sedan in its segment and the brand’s first locally produced electric sedan in the country. Assembled at the BMW Group Plant in Chennai, the i5 LWB combines extended dimensions, refined performance and India-specific enhancements to deliver a spacious and comfortable electric luxury experience.
The sedan measures 5,175 mm in length with a commanding 3,105 mm wheelbase, making it the largest and longest model in its class. This extended architecture prioritises rear passenger space, creating what BMW describes as the most spacious cabin in the segment and elevating the chauffeur-driven experience that Indian luxury buyers often prefer.
Power comes from a single electric motor producing 268 bhp, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.7 seconds. An 81.6 kWh battery pack delivers a claimed MIDC range of up to 669 km on a single charge, offering strong long-distance capability with fewer charging stops. For Indian road conditions, BMW has equipped the i5 LWB with adaptive rear-axle air suspension and increased ground clearance. These upgrades are designed to improve ride quality, absorb imperfections more effectively and enhance overall comfort on varied surfaces.
The locally manufactured i5 LWB marks another step in BMW’s commitment to producing relevant products for the Indian market. A limited First Edition of just 99 units will also be offered, featuring distinctive exterior and interior detailing.
Bookings are now open through authorised dealers and the official website, with deliveries expected to begin shortly. With its combination of local production, class-leading space, substantial range, responsive performance and ride refinements tailored for India, the BMW i5 Long Wheelbase arrives as a compelling new option in the luxury electric sedan space.
