Mahindra has updated its popular three-row electric SUV, the XEV 9S, by introducing a new 6-seater configuration that features individual captain seats in the second row. This change marks a significant enhancement for buyers seeking greater comfort and a more premium seating experience while still retaining three-row practicality.

Previously offered primarily as a 7-seater with a conventional bench in the middle row, the XEV 9S now gives customers the choice of a 2+2+2 layout. In this setup, the second row replaces the bench with two independent captain seats, each equipped with its own armrest. The gap between these seats creates a clear walkthrough to the third row, making access easier compared to climbing over a continuous bench. Mahindra has described the new arrangement as delivering a more relaxed journey, particularly appealing to chauffeur-driven users and families who prioritise second-row comfort.

The captain-seat option is available exclusively on the Pack Two Above, Pack Three and Pack Three Above variants. It is not offered on the entry-level Pack One Above trim. Pricing for the 6-seater versions begins at Rs 25.25 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Pack Two Above with the 70 kWh battery and goes up to Rs 30.15 lakh for the top Pack Three Above with the 79 kWh pack. The 6-seater configuration carries a premium of around Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 over the equivalent 7-seater models.

Apart from the revised second-row seating, the rest of the XEV 9S remains unchanged. The vehicle continues to be built on Mahindra’s INGLO electric platform and is offered with 70 kWh and 79 kWh battery options on the relevant packs, delivering claimed ranges of up to 600 km and 679 km respectively. Power comes from a rear-mounted electric motor producing up to 286 hp and 380 Nm of torque, depending on the battery. Feature lists, including advanced driver assistance systems, multiple displays, panoramic sunroof and premium audio, stay consistent with the existing higher-spec variants.

With this update, the Mahindra XEV 9S joins a select group of electric SUVs in the Indian market that offer both 6- and 7-seater configurations, giving buyers greater flexibility to match the vehicle to their lifestyle and seating preferences. The new 6-seater option is expected to further strengthen the model’s appeal in the growing three-row electric SUV segment.
