VinFast is actively evaluating the VF5 electric SUV for the Indian market, and a heavily camouflaged prototype has now been spotted on public roads, offering the first clear hints of the India-spec design.The test vehicle was recently seen in Bengaluru, fully wrapped in camouflage. While the disguise conceals finer details, the overall proportions, side profile and D-pillar design confirm it as the VF5 (known as the Herio Green in its home market of Vietnam for certain fleet applications). This appears to be a second-generation or updated version of the model rather than the current global-spec car.
If launched, the VF5 will sit below the midsize VF6 electric SUV in VinFast’s Indian lineup. Measuring approximately 3,967 mm in length, 1,723 mm in width and 1,579 mm in height, with a 2,514 mm wheelbase and around 160 mm of ground clearance, it falls into the sub-4-metre segment. This positions it as a potential rival to models such as the Tata Punch EV and Nexon EV.The India-spec VF5 is expected to feature different soft parts compared with the global version. These typically include revised bumpers, cladding, wheel designs or other exterior elements tailored for local regulations, road conditions and customer preferences.
Globally, the VF5 is offered with two battery options: a 29.6 kWh pack paired with a roughly 95 hp motor (around 260–268 km NEDC range) and a larger 37.23 kWh pack with a more powerful motor (up to 326 km NEDC). Exact specifications for India, including any localisation of batteries or motors at the Thoothukudi plant, remain to be confirmed.
VinFast’s parent group is also expected to utilise a fleet version of the VF5 for its Green SM (Green and Smart Mobility) electric taxi service in India. Green SM has already begun operations in the Delhi-NCR region with VinFast vehicles and plans further expansion. Deploying a dedicated fleet variant of the compact VF5 would support high-volume commercial use while keeping the retail passenger models distinct.
VinFast has stated that models below the VF6, including the VF5, are under evaluation as part of its plan to expand the India portfolio. The company aims to introduce additional products regularly and has already established local production. A possible launch towards the end of 2026 has been speculated, though no official timeline has been announced.The camouflaged testing confirms that VinFast is serious about adapting the VF5 for Indian conditions. More details on design, pricing and exact specifications are expected to emerge in the coming months as development progresses.
