BYD’s premium luxury brand Denza is preparing to make its long-awaited entry into the Indian market, with the D9 multi-purpose vehicle lined up as its first offering. Industry reports indicate that the model could arrive around the Diwali festive season this year or make its formal appearance at next year’s Auto Expo, marking a significant expansion for the Chinese automaker beyond its existing passenger vehicle range in the country.

The Denza D9 stands out as a full-size luxury MPV designed to challenge established players in the premium segment. Measuring approximately 5.2 metres in length, 1.9 metres in width and 1.9 metres in height, it rides on a generous 3,100 mm wheelbase. These dimensions position it as a larger alternative to popular models such as the Toyota Vellfire, offering spacious interiors suited for executive travel and family use. Both pure electric and hybrid powertrain options are available in global markets, though the battery-electric version is expected to lead the Indian introduction.

At the heart of the electric D9 is a substantial 103 kWh battery pack that delivers an estimated range of around 520 kilometres on a full charge. Power output stands at 230 kW for the front-wheel-drive configuration and rises to 275 kW in the all-wheel-drive setup, enabling a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 9.5 seconds. Charging support includes an 11 kW AC onboard charger for home or workplace use and up to 200 kW DC fast charging capability for quicker top-ups on the road. A comprehensive suite of luxury features further elevates the cabin experience, aligning the D9 with the expectations of India’s growing premium MPV buyers.

The arrival of the Denza D9 signals BYD’s intent to compete more aggressively in the upper echelons of the Indian automotive market. With its combination of generous size, advanced electric powertrains and upscale appointments, the model is poised to attract customers seeking a sophisticated alternative in the luxury people-mover category. As launch timelines firm up closer to Diwali or the next Auto Expo, interest in this new entrant is likely to build steadily among discerning buyers.
