Hero MotoCorp is set to move beyond electric scooters and enter the electric motorcycle segment under its Vida brand, with the company’s first mainstream electric motorcycle expected to arrive in 2027. The development marks a significant expansion of Hero’s EV strategy as India’s largest two-wheeler maker aims to compete more aggressively in a space where several manufacturers have already begun experimenting with electric motorcycles.

Confirmation of the plans came recently from Kausalya Nandakumar, Chief Business Officer of Hero MotoCorp’s Emerging Mobility Business Unit. Speaking to investors, she stated that new products would begin arriving from next year rather than in the current calendar year. The upcoming motorcycles will ride on two dedicated platforms developed specifically for motorcycle use rather than being adapted from the existing Vida scooter architecture.

These platforms, codenamed UBEX and VXZ, were first shown as concepts at EICMA 2025.UBEX is positioned as a street-naked motorcycle intended for mainstream buyers and is expected to form the volume-oriented offering. VXZ, developed in collaboration with US-based Zero Motorcycles, targets the higher-performance and adventure-oriented segment. Design patents for both projects have already been filed in India, signalling that development is progressing toward production readiness.

The move comes as Hero continues to scale its existing Vida electric scooter business. The brand has gained meaningful traction, with monthly production capacity targeted to reach around 45,000 units in FY27. By expanding into motorcycles, Hero is addressing a category where electric adoption remains limited compared with scooters, giving the company an opportunity to establish an early presence among mass-market and performance-oriented buyers

.Hero’s entry will place it alongside other established players and new-age manufacturers that have already started exploring electric motorcycles. The timing also aligns with broader regulatory shifts, including proposed restrictions on internal-combustion two-wheeler sales in certain markets in the coming years. With dedicated platforms, a collaboration with an experienced electric motorcycle specialist, and the growing strength of the Vida brand, Hero MotoCorp is positioning itself for a broader roledefinition of its electric portfolio starting in 2027.
