Chennai-based electric motorcycle startup Raptee.HV is charting a distinct path in India’s two-wheeler EV market by focusing on high-voltage architecture rather than the low-voltage systems that dominate most electric scooters and bikes. While the majority of Indian electric two-wheelers rely on 48V–72V platforms adapted from scooter designs, Raptee.HV has developed an indigenous 240V high-voltage platform (marketed as HV-Tec). This approach, more commonly associated with electric cars, aims to deliver sustained performance, better thermal management, higher efficiency, and significantly faster charging without the limitations often seen in low-voltage systems.

The Product: T30 Electric Motorcycle

The company’s flagship model, the T30, is positioned as a performance-oriented electric motorcycle competing with 250–300cc internal combustion engine bikes. Key claimed specifications include:

  • 22 kW electric motor with around 70 Nm of peak torque
  • Top speed of 135 km/h
  • 0–60 km/h in under 3.5 seconds
  • IDC estimated range of about 200 km (real-world figures typically lower depending on mode)
  • 5.4 kWh battery pack

A standout feature is CCS2 compatibility, allowing the T30 to use India’s growing network of public car charging stations. Combined with an onboard 3.3 kW charger, it can achieve 20–80% charge in roughly 36 minutes in optimal conditions. The bike is priced at approximately ₹2.39 lakh (ex-showroom) and comes with an eight-year battery warranty (or 80,000 km) and a three-year vehicle warranty.

Growth Targets and Manufacturing

Raptee.HV is targeting around 1,500–2,000 electric motorcycle sales in FY27 (April 2026–March 2027), with a sharp scale-up toward roughly 16,000 units the following year as production and distribution ramp up. Some earlier statements referenced figures in the 14,000 range for FY28, reflecting evolving plans tied to dealer network growth and capacity utilization.

The company currently operates a manufacturing facility in the Chennai area (reported as 4–5 acres) with an installed capacity that supports up to about 1,500 units per month, with potential to scale further through additional machinery. It has also secured a larger 40-acre site in Cheyyar, Tamil Nadu, for future expansion once demand grows.

Retail expansion is a key pillar. Starting from a limited number of outlets (beginning with company-owned points in Chennai and plans for Bengaluru and other metros), the company aims to build a broader dealer-operated network, targeting presence in multiple cities and eventually up to around 60 outlets by the end of FY28.

Strategy and Differentiation

Co-founder and CEO Dinesh Arjun (a former Tesla production manager) has emphasized that Raptee.HV is deliberately avoiding the crowded electric scooter segment. Instead, it is targeting the under-electrified motorcycle market, starting with the mid-size performance segment before moving toward a more mass-market (around 150cc-equivalent) product in roughly 24–30 months. The high-voltage approach is presented as enabling:

  • Sustained high performance without thermal throttling
  • Improved efficiency and potentially longer battery life
  • Access to the existing car charging ecosystem rather than requiring a parallel two-wheeler-specific network
  • Faster charging that addresses a major practical barrier for motorcycle riders

The company has pursued vertical integration, developing key components such as motors, controllers, and electronics in-house, and has received government support, including grants.

Outlook

Raptee.HV is also exploring funding (recent discussions have pointed to raises in the ₹150–200 crore range) to support inventory, production ramp-up, R&D for the next product, and network expansion. Longer-term ambitions include exports (targeted around FY28) and a potential IPO further out.By betting on high-voltage technology in a market still dominated by low-voltage designs, Raptee.HV is attempting to create a differentiated offering focused on performance and charging convenience. Success will depend on executing the production and retail scale-up, managing costs in a competitive landscape, and converting early interest into sustained volume as India’s electric motorcycle segment matures.
