Bajaj Auto is preparing to enter the electric two-wheeler performance segment with a Pulsar-branded electric motorcycle, expected to launch in FY28 (Financial Year 2027–28). The company is actively developing the model in anticipation of stricter electric vehicle adoption policies in key Indian markets, including Delhi.
Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, confirmed the development during the company’s post-earnings media conference call on Wednesday. He stated:
“Electric motorcycle is clearly under development and, all things going well, we should start to see some launch happening sometime in FY28.”
This marks Bajaj’s planned entry into the electric motorcycle space under its iconic Pulsar brand, known for performance and youth appeal.
Bajaj Auto is gearing up for upcoming regulatory changes that are expected to push higher electric vehicle adoption, especially in major cities like Delhi. The company sees a clear long-term opportunity in electric motorcycles as infrastructure improves and customer preferences shift toward performance-oriented EVs.
Bajaj has been a strong player in the internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycle segment with the Pulsar lineup. Transitioning the Pulsar name to electric will help leverage its strong brand equity among young and performance-focused buyers.
While detailed specifications are not yet available, the upcoming electric Pulsar is expected to:
- Offer sporty performance with strong acceleration and top speed suitable for highway and city riding.
- Feature modern electric powertrain technology, including fast charging and good range.
- Retain the aggressive styling DNA of the Pulsar series.
- Position itself as a premium electric motorcycle rather than a basic commuter scooter.
Bajaj already has experience in the electric space through its Chetak electric scooter. The new Pulsar EV will likely build on that learnings while targeting a different, more performance-driven customer segment.
Bajaj Auto has been taking a cautious yet strategic approach to electrification. The company is focusing on sustainable growth rather than rushing into the mass-market EV scooter segment, where competition is intense. The Pulsar electric motorcycle launch in FY28 aligns with its plan to introduce higher-value electric products as the market matures.
This development comes at a time when several manufacturers, including TVS, Hero, and Ola, are expanding their electric portfolios. Bajaj’s entry with the Pulsar badge could significantly boost credibility and adoption in the electric motorcycle category.
