Mercedes-Benz has given the official go-ahead for the new-generation GLB EV (also referred to as GLB with EQ Technology) to enter the Indian market. The premium compact seven-seater electric SUV, which has already made its global debut, is expected to arrive in India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) import in the coming months

The second-generation GLB builds on the success of its predecessor (the EQB in electric form) and is based on Mercedes’ new MMA (Mercedes Modular Architecture) platform. This underpins greater efficiency, improved range, and enhanced practicality.

It is offered in both five- and seven-seat configurations, making it one of the most versatile luxury electric SUVs in its class. The new model is larger than the outgoing EQB — longer by 98 mm, wider by 27 mm, with a 60 mm longer wheelbase — resulting in improved cabin space and cargo capacity.

At launch globally, the GLB EV is available in two variants, both featuring an 85 kWh lithium-ion battery and 800-volt architecture:

  • GLB 250+ (RWD): Rear-mounted electric motor producing 268 hp and 335 Nm of torque. 0-100 km/h in approximately 7.4 seconds, with a WLTP range of up to 631 km.
  • GLB 350 4MATIC (AWD): Dual-motor setup delivering 349 hp and 515 Nm. 0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, with a WLTP range of up to 614 km.

Ultra-fast DC charging support of up to 320 kW allows for adding around 225-260 km of range in just 10 minutes under optimal conditions. A more affordable EV variant is also planned for later introduction.

The new GLB EV features a sleek, modern design with star-shaped LED headlights, a light bar, flush door handles, and aerodynamic elements for a low drag coefficient. Inside, it boasts the latest MBUX Superscreen with multiple large displays, an advanced AI voice assistant, Burmester 3D surround sound with Dolby Atmos, and a panoramic glass roof.

Practicality remains a strong point, with generous boot space (expandable significantly with folded seats) and a 127-litre frunk for additional storage. Advanced driver assistance systems, multiple airbags, and premium safety features are standard.

While the global model offers both EV and ICE/hybrid options, the India-spec new-gen GLB is expected to focus on the electric variant initially, following Mercedes’ growing emphasis on electrification in the luxury segment. It will be positioned as a premium family-oriented electric SUV, competing with other luxury offerings in the compact-to-mid-size space.

Exact launch timeline and pricing for India are yet to be officially announced, but it is likely to be priced significantly higher than mass-market EVs due to its CBU import status and luxury positioning (global prices start around €59,000–€62,000).

The arrival of the new-gen Mercedes-Benz GLB EV strengthens the German luxury brand’s electric portfolio in India. With its impressive range, seven-seat flexibility, and cutting-edge technology, it is set to appeal to affluent buyers seeking a practical yet luxurious electric SUV for families. Expect more details, including India-specific specifications, variants, and pricing, closer to the official launch. Mercedes continues to expand its EV lineup, signaling strong confidence in the growing luxury electric vehicle market in the country.
