The American EV manufacturer has officially introduced the new Model Y Premium Rear Wheel Drive variant in India, priced at Rs. 50.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Deliveries are scheduled to commence from July 2026.
This launch positions the Model Y Premium RWD as Tesla’s most affordable offering in the country, significantly broadening access to the brand’s popular electric SUV. Tesla has simultaneously discontinued the higher-priced Long Range Premium RWD variant (previously Rs. 67.89 lakh), streamlining its India lineup to two models: the new Premium RWD and the recently introduced six-seater Model Y L Premium AWD at Rs. 61.99 lakh.

- Spacious & Practical: The five-seater Model Y boasts more than 2,100 litres of cargo space (up to 2,138 litres with seats folded in some reports), making it highly versatile for families and adventure seekers alike.
- Premium Cabin Experience: It features a completely redesigned cabin atmosphere with new interior themes, an all-black interior option, and upgraded comfort elements such as ventilated seats.
- Larger Touchscreen: The entry-level variant now comes equipped with a larger 16-inch front touchscreen, enhancing the intuitive Tesla user interface and infotainment experience.
- Performance & Range: It offers a WLTP-certified range of up to 500 km on a single charge. Acceleration from 0-100 kmph is claimed in around 5.9 seconds, delivering the instant torque and smooth performance Tesla is known for.

Tesla’s decision to introduce this more accessible variant comes as the company seeks to boost adoption of electric vehicles in India. By bringing the starting price down, Tesla aims to compete more effectively in the premium SUV segment against rivals like the BMW iX1 and Mercedes-Benz CLA EV equivalents.
The company is also offering attractive financing options, with EMIs reportedly starting as low as Rs. 39,990 per month (depending on down payment and loan terms), further lowering the barrier for premium EV buyers
