VinFast has officially unveiled the second-generation VF8 electric SUV in Vietnam, marking a significant milestone as it is the first model in the Vietnamese automaker’s lineup to receive a full generational update.

The new VF8 features a fresh design, more compact proportions, and a revised powertrain focused on improved efficiency and everyday usability. Pre-orders in Vietnam are set to begin on May 27, 2026, with deliveries expected to start in late July 2026. Pricing starts at approximately 999 million Vietnamese dong (around ₹36.5 lakh before taxes and duties).

Departing from the industry trend of ever-growing vehicles, the second-generation VF8 is noticeably more compact than its predecessor:

  • Significantly reduced length, width, and wheelbase (wheelbase shortened by around 110 mm).
  • New dimensions: approximately 4,701 mm long, 1,872 mm wide, and 1,670 mm tall.
  • Updated styling with a more modern and aerodynamic look, expected to improve efficiency.

The redesign includes new exterior panels and an evolved front and rear profile while retaining the VF8’s core crossover-SUV character. VinFast developed the new chassis in-house, incorporating adaptive suspension for better ride comfort and stability.

The new VF8 adopts a 60.13 kWh battery pack paired with a front-axle-mounted electric motor producing 228 hp and 330 Nm of torque. This represents an 18 hp increase over the equivalent motor in the previous generation.

  • Claimed Range: Up to 500 km (NEDC cycle).
  • Fast Charging: 10-70% in under 30 minutes.

While the battery is smaller than the outgoing model’s 87.7 kWh pack, VinFast claims the new setup delivers a balanced mix of performance, efficiency, and lower weight. The model is currently offered in a front-wheel-drive configuration.

Interior and Technology Updates

Inside, the second-generation VF8 introduces several notable changes:

  • A dedicated driver’s display for better visibility of key information.
  • A smaller 12.9-inch central infotainment screen (down from larger units in the previous model).
  • An all-new SDV (Software-Defined Vehicle) architecture developed in-house for smoother operation and future updates.
  • Enhanced ADAS features and improved overall cabin ergonomics.

The focus appears to be on refined user experience, ride comfort, and practicality for daily driving rather than maximizing screen size.

The second-generation VF8 is positioned as a more efficient and user-friendly D-segment electric SUV. By making the vehicle smaller and optimizing the powertrain, VinFast aims to address real-world needs like easier city maneuvering, better efficiency, and competitive pricing in its home market.

For now, the updated VF8 is Vietnam-specific, with no immediate confirmation of international availability, including in India. However, it signals VinFast’s aggressive push to iterate quickly on its global EV platform.

This launch demonstrates VinFast’s commitment to continuous improvement and in-house development as it competes in the fast-evolving electric SUV segment. More details on variants, full specifications, and potential global rollout are expected in the coming months.
