Kia India is gearing up to shake up the affordable EV segment with the launch of the Syros EV (internally coded SROS) in August 2026. This will be Kia’s most affordable electric vehicle in the Indian market yet, built on the versatile K1 platform.

Expected Specifications

  • Battery Options: 42 kWh and 49–51.4 kWh packs (shared with related Hyundai models like the Creta Electric).
  • Certified Range: 350–473 km (depending on battery size and variant).
  • Powertrain: Front-wheel-drive configuration.
  • Key Features:
    • Vehicle-to-Load (V2L)
    • Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging support

The Syros EV is essentially an electric derivative of the recently launched ICE Syros compact SUV. It will feature EV-specific exterior updates such as new bumpers, aerodynamic alloy wheels, a closed-off grille, and a prominent charging flap, while the interior is expected to remain largely similar to the petrol version.

Pricing and Rivals

Kia is expected to price the Syros EV between ₹14 lakh and ₹20 lakh (ex-showroom), making it a strong contender in the compact electric SUV space. It will directly challenge the:

  • Tata Nexon EV
  • Mahindra XUV 3XO EV

This positioning aims to bring Kia’s renowned build quality, feature-rich cabins, and safety standards into the fast-growing entry-level EV segment.

Design Reactions

Early spy shots and renders of the Syros EV have received mixed opinions. Many appreciate its boxy, upright stance and spacious cabin, while some critics feel the styling looks a bit forced or overly aggressive. Final production design tweaks could still sway public perception closer to launch.

Why This Launch Matters

With the Syros EV, Kia is accelerating its electrification plans in India. The model is expected to bring premium features like a large touchscreen, panoramic sunroof, Level-2 ADAS, and Kia’s signature safety standards to a more accessible price point. The upcoming launch will be a crucial test for Kia as it tries to expand beyond its current premium EV offerings (EV6 and EV9) into the high-volume mass-market segment.
