Uno Minda Limited, a leading global automotive components manufacturer, has announced a major expansion in the electric vehicle powertrain segment with the approval of a new greenfield manufacturing facility in Maharashtra.

The Board of Directors has approved the setting up of a state-of-the-art facility with an estimated investment of ₹550 crore. The plant will focus on high-voltage electric powertrain products for four-wheeler passenger vehicles.

Key Highlights of the Project

  • Location: Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad), Maharashtra
  • Subsidiary: To be established through Uno Minda Auto Innovations Private Limited (UMA IPL)
  • Products: Electric Drive Units (EDUs) and Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) systems
  • Timeline: Capital expenditure to be phased over the next two years; commercial production expected by Q2 FY28
  • Funding: Mix of debt and equity

This will be Uno Minda’s second dedicated plant for four-wheeler EV powertrain systems in India, strengthening its position as the company ramps up capabilities in the rapidly growing electric and hybrid vehicle segment.

The new facility will help Uno Minda meet rising demand from OEMs for advanced electric powertrain solutions. It comes on the back of significant new orders for EDUs and DHT systems from a key anchor customer. By localising production of these critical components, the company aims to reduce dependency on imports, improve cost competitiveness, and support faster delivery to customers.

Uno Minda is steadily expanding its EV portfolio, including motors, controllers, and complete powertrain systems. This investment aligns with India’s push towards electric mobility and the growing adoption of hybrid technologies in passenger vehicles.

As a Tier-1 supplier to major global and Indian automakers, Uno Minda has been proactively investing in future-ready technologies. The company already operates an existing EV powertrain facility and is now doubling down on capacity to capture a larger share of the four-wheeler electrification wave.

This ₹550 crore project adds to Uno Minda’s recent capex announcements, including investments in alloy wheel manufacturing and other EV-related infrastructure in Maharashtra.

The move is expected to create substantial employment in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar region and further position Uno Minda as a key technology partner in India’s electric vehicle ecosystem.
