Volkswagen has officially unveiled the ID. Polo GTI, marking a historic milestone as the brand’s first fully electric GTI model. Launched to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic GTI badge, this hot hatch blends classic GTI spirit with modern electric performance and everyday practicality.

The ID. Polo GTI is powered by a front-mounted electric motor producing 226 hp (166 kW) and 290 Nm of torque. Power is delivered to the front wheels through an electronically controlled differential lock for better traction and handling. Key performance figures include:

  • 0–100 km/h in 6.8 seconds
  • Top speed limited to 175 km/h
  • 52 kWh battery pack (NMC chemistry)

Volkswagen claims a WLTP range of up to 424 km — approximately 30 km less than the standard ID. Polo due to the sportier setup and higher performance.

The ID. Polo GTI stands out with aggressive GTI-specific styling that gives it a confident and sporty presence:

  • Larger 19-inch alloy wheels
  • Sport-tuned suspension
  • Signature GTI elements including red accents, unique front bumper, rear diffuser, and a prominent rear spoiler
  • Connected LED lighting with IQ.LIGHT technology
  • Compact dimensions (around 4 metres long) with a spacious cabin

Despite being fully electric, the model retains the sharp, fun-to-drive character expected from the GTI family.

Inside, the ID. Polo GTI features a sporty new theme with:

  • Dual digital displays (instrument cluster and infotainment)
  • Retro-inspired user interface graphics that pay homage to classic GTI models
  • Premium materials and sport seats
  • Modern features like Travel Assist, advanced connectivity, and an e-route planner

The cabin maintains the Polo’s reputation for practicality while adding a more dynamic and engaging atmosphere for the driver.

Pre-sales of the ID. Polo GTI are scheduled to begin in Germany this autumn at a price of just under €39,000. Wider European availability is expected to follow, with the model positioned as a fun, accessible electric hot hatch in a growing segment.

With the ID. Polo GTI, Volkswagen proves that the GTI badge can successfully transition into the electric era while preserving the fun, accessible performance that made it legendary. It joins the standard ID. Polo family (which offers up to 454 km range) as the sporty flagship.

This launch strengthens Volkswagen’s electric offensive in the compact segment and sets the stage for more electrified GTI models in the future
