Kia India is preparing to expand its electric vehicle portfolio with the launch of the Syros EV in August 2026. The upcoming model will be the brand’s smallest and most affordable electric vehicle in the Indian market, positioned to take on strong competitors like the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV.

According to sources, the Syros EV will be an ICE-to-EV conversion, following the strategy adopted by many manufacturers in the compact SUV segment. While it will share its core structure with the standard Syros, the electric version is expected to receive distinct styling and feature updates to give it a unique EV identity.

The Syros EV will be built on the same K1 platform as its internal combustion engine counterpart. This shared platform approach is expected to help Kia control costs and offer competitive pricing in the fast-growing electric compact SUV segment. With the addition of the electric powertrain, the Syros nameplate will now offer three powertrain options:

  • Petrol
  • Diesel
  • Electric

This multi-powertrain strategy will allow Kia to cater to diverse customer preferences while gradually shifting towards electrification.

The Syros EV is likely to feature several EV-specific design elements both on the exterior and interior. Expect updates such as:

  • Closed-off grille with Kia’s signature EV lighting signature
  • Aerodynamic wheel designs
  • Unique badging and colour options
  • Revised interior with EV-specific instrumentation and infotainment graphics
  • Possibly a higher-grade feature list to justify its electric credentials

The launch of the Syros EV marks an important step for Kia India as it aims to broaden its EV lineup beyond the premium Carens EV and upcoming larger electric SUVs. By offering a compact, affordable electric model, Kia intends to tap into the high-volume sweet spot currently dominated by Tata and Mahindra in the electric compact SUV space.

The Indian EV market is witnessing strong growth in the sub-₹20 lakh segment, and a competitively priced Syros EV with Kia’s renowned build quality, features, and after-sales network could significantly boost the company’s electric sales numbers.

Industry experts believe the August 2026 launch timing is strategic, allowing Kia to capitalise on the festive buying season and increasing consumer interest in electric vehicles driven by improving charging infrastructure and government incentives.
