Mercedes-Benz India launched the all-new CLA Electric on April 24, 2026, marking a pivotal moment in the brand’s electrification strategy for the Indian market. The sleek electric sedan is available in three variants:
- CLA 200 Standard Range — ₹55 lakh
- CLA 250+ Long Range — ₹59 lakh
- CLA 250+ Launch Edition — ₹64 lakh (ex-showroom)
The company has already received over 400 confirmed bookings even before the official launch, indicating strong customer interest in this entry-luxury electric offering.
The CLA Electric is the first Mercedes-Benz vehicle built on the new Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA) platform. It features an advanced 800-volt electrical system, which enables ultra-fast DC charging of up to 320 kW. According to Mercedes-Benz, this architecture — derived from learnings of the Vision EQXX concept — delivers exceptional efficiency. The top-spec CLA 250+ Long Range variant, equipped with an 85.5 kWh battery, offers a WLTP-rated range of up to 792 km on a single charge. The CLA 200 Standard Range, with a smaller 58 kWh battery, is rated for up to 542 km.
Fast-charging capability is equally impressive: Mercedes claims that just 20 minutes of DC fast charging can add up to 400 km of range in the Long Range variant.
The launch of the CLA is more than just the introduction of a new model — it represents Mercedes-Benz India’s shift toward a full EV portfolio strategy. Senior executives have confirmed that the company plans to roll out more than six new electric vehicles in the Indian market in the coming years. The CLA, positioned as an accessible yet premium electric sedan, is expected to replace the earlier A-Class Limousine as well as the EQA and EQB electric SUVs in the lineup, broadening the brand’s appeal in the growing luxury EV segment.
Two additional EVs are slated for launch later in 2026, though specific model details and timelines are yet to be disclosed. This aggressive push comes as Mercedes-Benz aims to strengthen its position against competitors like Tesla, BMW, and emerging Indian luxury EV players.
The new CLA Electric retains the signature sleek, coupe-like fastback design that made the original CLA popular, while incorporating modern EV elements such as flush door handles, connected LED lighting, and aerodynamic optimizations for efficiency.
It is expected to offer a rich feature set typical of Mercedes-Benz, including advanced MBUX infotainment, high-end interior materials, and the latest driver assistance systems. The car is imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) initially.Deliveries for the CLA 250+ Long Range and Launch Edition are scheduled to begin by the end of April 2026, while the CLA 200 Standard Range will reach customers from June 2026.
Priced aggressively between ₹55 lakh and ₹64 lakh, the CLA Electric positions itself as a compelling alternative in the entry-premium electric sedan space. With its class-leading range, rapid charging, and Mercedes’ renowned luxury and refinement, it is expected to attract buyers transitioning from combustion-engine luxury cars as well as early EV adopters.
The strong pre-launch bookings and the announcement of a wider EV rollout signal Mercedes-Benz’s serious long-term commitment to India’s evolving electric mobility landscape
.As the luxury EV segment heats up, the new CLA could play a key role in accelerating Mercedes-Benz’s electrification journey in the country.
