For a long time, the electric vehicle conversation at Hyundai was dominated by the flagship Ioniq 5 and the practical Kona. However, as of 2026, the landscape has shifted. Hyundai has officially introduced the Ioniq 3—a dedicated electric hatchback built on the E-GMP platform—positioning it alongside the Creta Electric, the EV avatar of India’s favorite SUV.
While the two models serve different body styles, their specifications and price points are surprisingly close. If you are looking to enter the Hyundai EV family, which one should you choose? We break down how the entry-level Ioniq 3 stacks up against the Creta Electric.
The most surprising takeaway is the wheelbase. Despite the Ioniq 3 being shorter overall, its dedicated electric platform (E-GMP) allows the wheels to be pushed to the far corners, giving it a longer wheelbase than the Creta.
| Dimension | Hyundai Creta Electric | Hyundai Ioniq 3 |
| Length | 4,340 mm | 4,155 mm |
| Width | 1,790 mm | 1,800 mm |
| Height | 1,655 mm | 1,505 mm |
| Wheelbase | 2,610 mm | 2,680 mm |
| Ground Clearance | 190 mm | ~155-160 mm |
| Boot Space | 433 Litres | 441 Litres |
| Frunk (Front Trunk) | 22 Litres | Not Available |
The biggest differentiator isn’t what you see, but what’s underneath.
- Ioniq 3: Built on the E-GMP (400V architecture). This is a “born electric” platform. It allows for a flat floor, a longer wheelbase relative to its length, and optimized interior packaging.
- Creta Electric: Based on a modified K2 platform (shared with the ICE Creta). While Hyundai has done a stellar job packaging the battery, it still carries the legacy of a front-engine architecture, meaning slightly less optimization for cabin space compared to a dedicated EV.
Both vehicles target the “sweet spot” of urban and highway usability, but they go about it with different motor tunings.
| Feature | Hyundai Ioniq 3 (Standard / LR) | Hyundai Creta Electric (Standard / LR) |
| Battery Capacity | 42.2 kWh / 61 kWh | 42 kWh / 51.4 kWh |
| Power (bhp) | 145 hp / 133 hp | 133 hp / 171 hp |
| Torque | 249 Nm | 255 Nm |
| Range (Claimed) | 344 km – 496 km (WLTP) | 420 km – 510 km (MIDC) |
| 0–100 km/h | ~8.5 seconds | 8.2 seconds |
Interestingly, the Creta Electric LR offers a punchier motor (171 hp), making it slightly more spirited on highway overtakes, whereas the Ioniq 3 focuses on efficiency and a smoother delivery typical of the Ioniq family.
The Creta Electric is the “Go-Anywhere” family car. Its 190 mm ground clearance and taller seating make it better for rough roads and elderly passengers who prefer easy ingress.
The Ioniq 3 is the “Tech-Forward” city car. It’s easier to park, charges faster at high-speed stations, and offers a more “premium-boutique” interior experience.
