JSW Motors Plans Aggressive Launch of Five Electrified SUVs Derived from Chery Lineup in Next 2-3 Years

JSW Motors, the JSW Group’s first independent foray into the passenger car business, is preparing an ambitious product offensive right from its market entry. The company is expected to launch five electrified SUVs over the next 2–3 years, with all models being rebadged and locally adapted versions derived from Chinese automaker Chery’s global portfolio and its sub-brands.This aggressive strategy underscores JSW Motors’ intent to quickly establish a strong footprint in India’s rapidly growing new energy vehicle (NEV) segment, which includes both pure electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs).

The planned lineup draws from multiple Chery sub-brands and is expected to cover a wide range of segments — from compact and mid-size offerings to more premium and rugged SUVs. The five models reportedly include:

  • Jetour T2 (PHEV) — The company’s first product, a lifestyle-oriented plug-in hybrid SUV. It is slated for launch before Diwali 2026 (likely Q3 2026). This will be JSW Motors’ entry vehicle, assembled at its upcoming greenfield plant in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad), Maharashtra.
  • Jaecoo J5 (Electric) — A stylish, premium electric SUV with a distinctive Range Rover-inspired design. Positioned as a Creta Electric rival in the compact/mid-size segment, it features strong performance (around 207 bhp) and competitive range. Expected launch around 2027.
  • iCar V23 (also referred to as Chery V23) (Electric) — A boxy, rugged electric SUV offering a bold stance and potentially up to 510 km range (CLTC cycle, depending on battery). It is likely to be the third product in the pipeline, with a possible launch in 2027–2028. Spy shots of the camouflaged test mule have already surfaced in India.
  • Chery Q — Expected to be another electrified offering (details on exact powertrain and positioning are still emerging), adding further variety to the portfolio.
  • Jaecoo J7 (PHEV) — A larger, more premium plug-in hybrid SUV that has also been spied testing in India. It is positioned for the upper end of the electrified SUV spectrum and could complement the lineup with greater space and capability.

These models will be sold under the JSW Motors brand (not carrying Jetour, Jaecoo, or iCar badging directly) and will undergo India-specific adaptations, including localisation of components to meet regulatory requirements and improve cost competitiveness.

JSW Motors will assemble the vehicles at its new manufacturing facility in Maharashtra. The company has indicated plans to achieve high localisation levels quickly — targeting around 80% for subsequent models — to optimise pricing and align with government policies promoting local manufacturing. The first model (Jetour T2-based PHEV) is expected to see production ramp-up starting later in 2026, with progressive increases in localisation thereafte

By launching five electrified SUVs in quick succession, JSW Motors aims to address multiple customer segments: urban buyers seeking efficient PHEVs and EVs, adventure enthusiasts drawn to rugged designs, and families looking for practical yet modern electrified options.

This move comes as India’s electric and hybrid passenger vehicle market continues to expand, supported by improving charging infrastructure, policy incentives, and rising awareness of sustainable mobility.

JSW Motors is entering the market independently while the group continues its existing joint venture with MG Motor India. The new brand is expected to focus heavily on NEVs, differentiating itself through modern design, competitive features, and value-driven pricing.

Exact names, final specifications, pricing, and detailed timelines for the later models will be confirmed closer to their respective launches. However, industry observers note that the first vehicle could be priced in the ₹20–25 lakh range (estimated), with subsequent models scaling up depending on size and positioning.

JSW Motors’ rapid product rollout signals the group’s strong confidence in India’s electrification journey and positions it as a potential disruptor in the SUV-dominated market. More updates, including official teasers and pricing details, are anticipated in the coming months as the company gears up for its debut. Prospective buyers and enthusiasts should keep an eye on JSW Motors’ official communications and authorised dealership developments for the latest information.
