A heavily camouflaged test mule of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 facelift has been spotted testing on Indian roads, signalling that the popular electric crossover is inching closer to its much-awaited update in India. The spy shots, reportedly captured in and around Chennai, show the vehicle undergoing rigorous real-world testing ahead of its expected launch in 2026.

At first glance, the overall silhouette of the Ioniq 5 facelift appears largely unchanged from the current model. However, the test mule features new aero-optimized alloy wheels, hinting at subtle aerodynamic improvements. Industry sources suggest the upcoming version will be dimensionally larger, primarily to accommodate a significantly bigger battery pack.

While the core retro-futuristic design language remains intact, the facelifted Ioniq 5 is likely to receive mild revisions at both the front and rear. These could include refreshed bumpers, updated lighting signatures, and a slightly longer rear spoiler for better aerodynamics. The overall length is expected to increase marginally to around 4,655 mm (up by about 20 mm), helping house the larger battery without compromising interior space.

Inside the cabin, the layout is expected to carry over from the international-spec facelift models with minimal changes. Key highlights include:

  • A new flat-bottom, logo-less steering wheel for a more modern and sporty appeal.
  • Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay now offered as standard, addressing a long-standing demand from Indian buyers.
  • The signature 12.3-inch dual-screen display (instrument cluster + infotainment) continues to anchor the dashboard.

Other notable features likely to be carried forward or enhanced include:

  • All four disc brakes
  • Steering wheel-mounted paddles for regenerative braking adjustment
  • 20-inch alloy wheels
  • Powered tailgate
  • Powered front seats with electric lumbar support
  • Head-Up Display (HUD)

The facelift is also expected to bring improved build quality, better materials, and possibly additional safety and convenience features aligned with global standards.

The most significant change for the Indian market is expected to be the introduction of a larger 84 kWh battery pack (replacing the current 72.6 kWh unit). This upgrade should deliver substantially improved real-world range, potentially pushing it closer to or beyond 500–570 km on a single charge depending on driving conditions and variant.

The increased battery capacity, combined with possible efficiency improvements and better thermal management, should make the Ioniq 5 facelift even more appealing for highway runs and daily commuting alike.

Hyundai is expected to launch the facelifted Ioniq 5 in India sometime in 2026. The update comes at a time when competition in the premium electric SUV segment is heating up, with rivals like the Kia EV6, BYD Seal, and upcoming models from other brands vying for attention.

With its striking design, fast-charging capability (thanks to the 800V architecture), spacious and premium cabin, and now a bigger battery, the updated Ioniq 5 is poised to strengthen Hyundai’s position in India’s growing luxury EV market.

The current Ioniq 5 has already built a strong reputation for its unique styling and enjoyable driving dynamics. The facelift should build on that foundation by addressing range anxiety and adding modern connectivity features that Indian customers have been waiting for.
