JSW Motors’ Debut SUV: A Powerful 381hp Plug-in Hybrid Based on the Jetour T2 Set for 2026 Launch in India , Expected price is around Rs. ₹38–40 lakh

JSW Motors, the new independent passenger vehicle arm of the JSW Group, is gearing up to enter the Indian market with a bang. Its first offering will be a rugged, boxy SUV based on the global Jetour T2 (also known as the Jetour T2 i-DM in plug-in hybrid form). The model is expected to launch in 2026, with sales commencing by September or around the festive season (before Diwali), according to industry sources.

The upcoming JSW SUV will borrow the Jetour T2’s plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, specifically the all-wheel-drive variant. It combines a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine (producing around 156 hp) with a 26.7 kWh battery pack and dual electric motors. The combined system output stands at 381 hp and 610 Nm of torque, delivered to all four wheels through a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT).

This setup promises strong performance alongside impressive efficiency. The PHEV variant offers a claimed electric-only range of up to 139 km (NEDC), while the total combined range can exceed 1,000 km on a full tank and charge. For Indian buyers conscious of running costs, the ability to cover daily commutes on electric power alone could bring ownership expenses closer to those of smaller, more frugal vehicles — depending on charging habits and usage patterns.

The Jetour T2 is known internationally for its bold, boxy styling reminiscent of the Land Rover Defender, with upright proportions, a rugged stance, and strong off-road appeal. In India, JSW Motors is expected to retain much of this distinctive “mini-Defender” look, making it a lifestyle-oriented SUV that stands out from conventional crossovers. While some early reports suggested a more accessible pricing band of ₹15–30 lakh, recent sources point to a premium positioning for the PHEV AWD version, estimated at ₹38–40 lakh (ex-showroom). This would place it in the upper mid-size or premium lifestyle SUV segment, competing with models that offer a mix of capability, luxury, and hybrid efficiency.

The vehicle will likely be locally assembled, with JSW targeting high localisation levels over time. It is expected to come loaded with modern features such as large dual screens (including a 15.6-inch touchscreen), a digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, wireless charging, dual-zone climate control, 360-degree camera, and Level 2 ADAS.

What to Expect

  • Powertrain: 1.5T petrol + dual electric motors (AWD), 381 hp / 610 Nm, 3-speed DHT
  • Electric Range: ~139 km (claimed)
  • Total Range: Over 1,000 km combined
  • Launch Timeline: Debut around August 2026, on-sale by September/October 2026 (before Diwali)
  • Expected Price: ₹38–40 lakh (ex-showroom, for the PHEV variant)

JSW Motors’ entry with this Jetour T2-based PHEV marks an ambitious move into India’s growing hybrid and lifestyle SUV space. By bringing advanced plug-in hybrid technology and distinctive design from its partnership with Chery (Jetour’s parent), the company aims to offer a compelling alternative that blends performance, efficiency, and off-road character.
