Indian Electric 2-Wheeler Industry Hits New Monthly Sales Record in March 2026

The Indian electric two-wheeler (E2W) industry has achieved a significant milestone, registering its highest-ever monthly sales in March 2026. Total sales reached close to 1.91 lakh units, marking a strong 45% year-on-year growth compared to March 2025.This impressive performance translates to an average daily sales run rate of approximately 6,159 units throughout the month, highlighting the accelerating adoption of electric scooters and motorcycles across the country.

TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto continued their dominance as the top two players in the electric two-wheeler segment. Their strong performance, backed by popular models like the TVS iQube (and the new Orbiter) and the Bajaj Chetak, played a key role in driving the industry to this new record.Legacy manufacturers are increasingly strengthening their position in the EV space, offering reliable products, wider service networks, and competitive pricing that appeal to a broader customer base in both urban and semi-urban markets.

Out of nearly 150 companies competing in India’s electric two-wheeler market, the Top 10 OEMs accounted for a massive 95% of total sales in March 2026. These leading players collectively sold around 1.82 lakh units, leaving just 5% of the market share for the remaining 140+ smaller manufacturers.

This high level of market concentration underscores the growing maturity of the segment, where established brands with strong distribution, after-sales support, and brand trust continue to outperform newer entrants.

Several factors contributed to this record-breaking month:

  • Aggressive year-end discounts and promotional schemes by manufacturers
  • Rising fuel prices pushing buyers toward lower running costs of EVs
  • Improved product offerings with better range, performance, and features
  • Expanding charging infrastructure and greater consumer confidence in electric mobility

The strong March performance also helped lift the full-year FY2026 electric two-wheeler sales to healthy growth levels, reinforcing India’s position as one of the fastest-growing EV two-wheeler markets globally.

With sustained policy support, falling battery costs, and a steady pipeline of new launches, the electric two-wheeler segment is expected to maintain its upward trajectory. The record sales in March 2026 signal that EVs are no longer a niche choice but are rapidly becoming a mainstream option for daily commuting in India.

As the industry enters FY2027, competition is likely to intensify further, especially with legacy players expanding their EV portfolios and new technologies entering the market. The message from March 2026 is clear: India’s electric two-wheeler revolution is gaining serious speed.
