Hero MotoCorp’s electric two-wheeler brand, Vida, has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing 200,000 cumulative retail sales in the domestic market. As of March 23, 2026, total deliveries since its launch in October 2022 stand at 202,422 units.
The most striking aspect of this achievement is the dramatic acceleration in sales momentum. It took Vida 34 months to sell its first 100,000 units after launch. In contrast, the next 100,000 units (from 100,001 to 200,000) were delivered in just eight months, highlighting a sharp surge in demand starting around mid-2025.
Strong Demand for Affordable VX2 Models
This rapid growth has been primarily driven by the Vida VX2 Go and VX2 Plus variants, which have become among the most accessible electric scooters in India. A key enabler of this affordability is Hero MotoCorp’s innovative Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, introduced in 2025.Under the BaaS subscription, customers can purchase the scooter chassis at a significantly reduced upfront cost and subscribe separately for the battery on a “pay-as-you-go” basis. For instance:
- The VX2 Go (2.2 kWh) starts as low as around ₹44,990–₹73,850 (depending on the plan), with battery charges as low as ₹0.90–₹1.24 per km.
- The VX2 Plus offers similar flexibility, with plans tailored to different usage patterns (e.g., 750–1,200 km per month over 3–5 years).
This approach lowers the initial ownership barrier substantially—sometimes by up to 30%—making electric mobility more appealing to budget-conscious buyers, especially in smaller cities and price-sensitive segments. The model also includes benefits like free warranty, charging support, and roadside assistance in certain plans.
Context of Growth
Vida’s performance reflects broader trends in India’s electric two-wheeler market, which saw strong volumes in 2025 and early 2026. The brand recorded its highest monthly dispatches in periods like July 2025 (over 11,200 units) and continued with robust numbers in early 2026 (e.g., over 12,500 units in February 2026). This acceleration helped Vida cross 100,000 units in a single calendar year (2025) for the first time. The combination of product upgrades, removable batteries on the VX2 series, competitive pricing via BaaS, and Hero MotoCorp’s extensive dealership and service network has clearly resonated with customers. As India pushes toward greater EV adoption, models that address range anxiety, upfront cost, and convenience are gaining traction.
What This Means for the Segment
Reaching 200,000 deliveries in under four years—and halving the time for the second lakh—positions Vida as one of the faster-scaling players in the competitive electric scooter space. It underscores how innovative financing models like BaaS can democratize EV ownership beyond premium urban buyers.
With continued focus on affordability, network expansion, and potential new variants, Hero MotoCorp’s Vida brand appears well-poised to maintain its growth trajectory in the evolving Indian EV two-wheeler market.
