EKA Mobility, in consortium with GreenCell Mobility, has secured a major contract to supply and deploy 915 electric buses in Hyderabad. The company received the Letter of Award (LOA) on March 23, 2026 (Monday), marking a significant advancement in the city’s push toward zero-emission public transport.
The project is executed under the Government of India’s PM E-DRIVE (Prime Minister Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement) scheme. Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) serves as the nodal procurement agency, facilitating large-scale aggregation to reduce costs, standardize specifications, and accelerate EV adoption in urban mobility without heavy upfront capital burdens on state transport bodies. The fleet breakdown includes:
- 100 nine-meter (9m) electric buses
- 815 twelve-meter (12m) standard floor non-AC electric buses
These buses are designed to meet diverse intra-city transit needs, offering reliable, efficient, and eco-friendly alternatives to traditional diesel fleets. The deployment will support Hyderabad’s growing urban mobility demands while contributing to cleaner air and reduced emissions.
Rohit Srivastava, Business Head and Chief Growth Officer at EKA Mobility, expressed pride in the win: “We are proud to contribute to Hyderabad’s transition toward cleaner, smarter urban transport in alignment with the Government of India’s PM E-DRIVE vision.”The consortium’s partnership leverages EKA Mobility’s expertise in manufacturing electric commercial vehicles and GreenCell Mobility’s strengths in operations and fleet management.
This Hyderabad order builds on EKA Mobility’s expanding portfolio under CESL-led initiatives, including previous deployments in states like Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Puducherry, and Meghalaya. The PM E-DRIVE scheme targets over 14,000 electric buses across major Indian cities (including Hyderabad, which features prominently in recent allocations), with a dedicated budget to subsidize procurement and promote local manufacturing.
EKA Mobility, known for its advanced electric bus platforms (such as models featuring LFP batteries, fast CCS2 charging, and ranges suited for urban operations), continues to strengthen its position as a key player in India’s commercial EV sector. This latest award underscores the accelerating momentum of electric public transport in India, with Hyderabad set to benefit from a substantial fleet of zero-emission buses in the coming months and years. Stay tuned for updates on deployment timelines, specific model integrations, and charging infrastructure rollout as the project progresses.
