Kia has refreshed its popular electric MPV, the Carens Clavis EV, with the 2026 edition (Model Year 2026 or MY26 update). Launched last year as India’s accessible 7-seater electric people mover, the Carens Clavis EV now gains enhanced flexibility, premium styling options, and greater family-oriented appeal through new trims and seating configurations. The update introduces GT-Line and X-Line variants, focused on the extended-range models, while adding a 6-seater layout alongside the existing 7-seater option. These changes make the Carens Clavis EV more versatile for different buyer needs—whether prioritizing premium aesthetics, sporty touches, or enhanced second-row comfort.
Kia has expanded the lineup with GT-Line (available in GTX and GTX+ sub-variants) and a standalone X-Line trim, both exclusive to the 51.4 kWh extended-range battery pack. These trims bring distinctive design enhancements:
- GT-Line features sportier elements such as unique alloy wheels, lime-accented brake calipers, metal pedals, and other cosmetic upgrades for a more dynamic look.
- X-Line offers a distinct premium styling package, positioning it as a flagship option with exclusive exterior and interior detailing.
These additions cater to buyers seeking a more personalized or upscale appearance without compromising the MPV’s core practicality.
A major highlight of the 2026 update is the introduction of a 6-seater layout, featuring second-row captain seats with sliding, reclining, and tumble functions for superior comfort and easier third-row access. This configuration is now available across multiple trims, including:
- HTX (E)
- HTX
- HTX+
- GTX
- GTX+
- X-Line
The traditional 7-seater setup continues on higher trims (such as GTX, GTX+, and X-Line), ensuring options for larger families or those needing maximum seating capacity.
The Carens Clavis EV retains its proven dual-battery setup:
- 42 kWh battery (standard range): ARAI-certified up to 404 km per charge, ideal for city and daily use.
- 51.4 kWh battery (extended range): ARAI-certified up to 490 km per charge, powering the higher trims including the new GT-Line and X-Line variants.
Both use a front-mounted electric motor delivering around 171 hp (for the larger pack) and 255 Nm of torque, with features like i-Pedal regen braking, drive modes (Eco/Normal/Sport), and fast charging (10-80% in about 39 minutes on a 100 kW DC charger).Real-world tests have shown practical ranges of around 350-400 km for the extended-range version, depending on conditions.
Prices for the updated Carens Clavis EV start at ₹17.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the entry-level HTK+ (42 kWh, 7-seater) and extend up to ₹24.99 lakh for the top-spec GTX+, GTX+ ER, and X-Line variants (both 6- and 7-seater configurations available at the top end). The MY26 update enhances the Carens Clavis EV’s position as a family-focused electric MPV, blending Kia’s signature value, space, and tech (including Level 2 ADAS, BOSE audio in higher trims, ventilated seats, and V2L functionality) with fresh choices for personalization and comfort. As electric adoption grows in India, this refreshed model strengthens its appeal for multi-generational households seeking an eco-friendly, practical three-row vehicle.
