JSW MG Motor Accelerates Electrification Drive: Multiple EVs and PHEVs Set for 2026–2027 Launch

JSW MG Motor is gearing up for an aggressive expansion in India’s electrified vehicle segment, with plans to launch multiple pure electric and hybrid/plug-in hybrid models by next year (2027). This follows the recent introduction of the ICE-only Majestor SUV, signaling the company’s strategic pivot toward new energy vehicles (NEVs) to capture a larger share of the growing EV and hybrid market.

The company, a joint venture between JSW Group and SAIC Motor (MG’s parent), aims for 75-80% of its sales to come from electrified powertrains in the coming years. It plans to introduce around six new models between 2026 and 2027, with a strong emphasis on EVs and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). This includes a mix of locally manufactured vehicles for broader accessibility and imported premium models to target higher-end buyers.

One of the most anticipated launches is the MG IM6, a premium D-segment SUV-coupe set to arrive around October 2026. This fully imported model will be sold through MG’s Select retail channel for premium vehicles. Positioned as a rival to the Tesla Model Y, the IM6 is expected to feature high-performance specs, including a potential single-motor rear-wheel-drive variant with around 402 hp in some global configurations. Pricing is projected around ₹60 lakh (ex-showroom), making it an entry point into MG’s luxury EV lineup below models like the M9.Following the ICE-focused Majestor, JSW MG Motor is expected to roll out three electrified SUVs in the near term:

  • A premium electric model like the IM6 (imported, around October 2026).
  • A mass-market plug-in hybrid SUV, likely based on the Wuling Starlight 560 (codenamed 520 internally). This three-row vehicle (with 5- and 7-seater options) is targeted to rival the Mahindra XUV7XO and XEV 9S, as well as Tata Harrier models. It features a 1.5L petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a 20.5 kWh battery, offering up to 100 km of pure electric range and a combined output of around 194 bhp. Launch is anticipated by October-December 2026, potentially as India’s first mass-market PHEV SUV. A pure electric variant of the same platform could also follow, with a larger battery for approximately 500 km range.
  • Additional EVs, including a replacement for the ZS EV (possibly the MG S5 EV), expected in late 2026 or 2027, with a claimed range of around 500 km.

The company is also developing a new midsize SUV family on a flexible modular platform (such as SIGMA) that supports ICE, EV, and hybrid configurations. This could replace aging models like the Astor and ZS EV around 2027, potentially including a Creta-rivaling variant.

JSW MG Motor is investing heavily—between ₹3,000-4,000 crore (up to $440 million)—to expand production capacity at its Halol plant and localize components for cost efficiency. The focus on NEVs aligns with India’s push toward sustainable mobility, building on recent successes like the Windsor EV. While select ICE models will continue, the “center of gravity” of the portfolio will shift decisively toward electrification, hybrids, and PHEVs.This product offensive positions JSW MG Motor as a serious contender in India’s competitive SUV and EV landscape, blending premium imports with affordable local of

ferings to appeal to diverse buyers. Enthusiasts can expect more details on pricing, specs, and exact timelines as launches approach throughout 2026.
