Hero MotoCorp, India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, has taken a bold step into the mainstream electric motorcycle segment with the unveiling of Project VxZ at EICMA 2025 in Milan, Italy. This groundbreaking project, co-developed with US-based electric motorcycle specialist Zero Motorcycles, marks a pivotal milestone in Hero’s electrification journey and signals its intent to capture a significant share of the growing global and Indian electric two-wheeler market.Unveiled under Hero’s dedicated EV sub-brand VIDA, Project VxZ (believed to stand for VIDA x Zero) represents the company’s first serious push into mass-market electric motorcycles. Unlike earlier Vida offerings focused on scooters like the V1 and V2 series, the VxZ targets performance-oriented riders with a streetfighter-style naked design. Teasers and show displays showcased a muscular stance, sharp projector LED headlamps with signature Vida DRLs, a stepped seat, wide handlebars, 5-spoke alloy wheels, a compact tail section, and belt-drive setup—elements that blend aggressive aesthetics with practical ergonomics.
The collaboration leverages Zero Motorcycles’ proven expertise in high-performance electric powertrains, software, and battery technology—honed since 2006—with Hero’s unparalleled scale in manufacturing, sourcing, and distribution. Hero made a strategic investment in Zero in 2023, laying the foundation for joint development of scalable, accessible electric platforms. Importantly, patent filings and analyses confirm that Project VxZ is not a rebadged Zero model. It features a unique chassis, frame layout, battery placement, and overall architecture tailored specifically for Indian conditions, pricing expectations, road realities, and high-volume production. This ground-up platform optimizes for factors like pothole-ridden roads, diverse terrains, and cost-sensitive consumers while incorporating Zero’s advanced tech for superior efficiency, torque delivery, and range.
Hero has now filed design patents for the VxZ in India, a clear indicator that the project has progressed from concept to near-production readiness. Leaked patent sketches reveal details such as USD front forks, monoshock rear suspension, and proportions suggesting a mid-mounted electric motor paired with a low-slung battery pack for optimal center of gravity and handling. While exact technical specifications remain under wraps—no confirmed power output, battery capacity, range, or charging details have been released—the bike is positioned as a capable, real-world performer rather than a basic commuter EV. Industry expectations point toward competitive mid-tier performance, potentially rivaling or surpassing offerings in the premium electric motorcycle space like the Ultraviolette F77.
This debut aligns with Hero’s broader electric strategy showcased at EICMA 2025 under the VIDA Novus umbrella. Alongside Project VxZ, the company revealed the Ubex (a neo-naked urban explorer on a modular platform with supermoto-inspired design), the VX2 electric scooter for European markets, micro-EVs like Nex series, and the off-road DIRT.E lineup (including kid-friendly K3 and racing MX7 concepts). These highlight Hero’s vision for diverse, sustainable mobility—from urban commuters to adventure seekers—backed by connected features, smart tech, and global ambitions.
With the patents now in place, development appears advanced. Analysts anticipate test mules, homologation filings, and further teasers soon, with a potential production launch in India by late 2026 or 2027. The VxZ could become Hero’s flagship electric motorcycle under Vida branding, helping bridge the gap between affordable scooters and premium performance bikes in a market where electric motorcycles remain underrepresented compared to scooters.
Hero MotoCorp’s partnership with Zero positions it strongly to accelerate EV adoption in India and beyond. By combining cutting-edge technology with mass-market accessibility, Project VxZ could redefine electric motorcycling for millions, driving the transition toward cleaner, more exciting two-wheeled mobility. As the world’s largest motorcycle maker embraces electrification, the VxZ stands as a promising symbol of what’s to come.
