Bajaj Auto Unveils Next-Generation Chetak Electric Scooter with Fresh Design and Key Updates

Bajaj Auto has officially launched the next-generation version of its popular Chetak electric scooter in the Indian market today, January 14, 2026. Dubbed the Chetak C25 (also referred to as C2501 in some references), the new model introduces notable design refreshes, functional enhancements, and a more accessible entry point into the Chetak lineup, building on the brand’s strong momentum in the electric two-wheeler segment.

The launch follows intense anticipation fueled by an official teaser from Bajaj that showcased a redesigned rear profile, along with spy shots of test mules spotted earlier in late 2025. These hints proved accurate, revealing a scooter that evolves the iconic neo-retro aesthetic while incorporating practical changes for urban commuters.

Key Design Changes

The most prominent update is at the rear, where the previous split LED tail-lamps have been replaced by a sleek, single horizontal LED light bar. Turn indicators are integrated at both ends of the unit, and the Chetak badge now sits prominently above it, creating a cleaner and more modern look. This shift gives the scooter a sharper, more contemporary tail section while maintaining its timeless appeal.

Up front, subtle refinements include repositioned turn indicators moved from the apron to the handlebar area, along with ‘Chetak’ lettering integrated into the LED headlamp. The overall silhouette remains faithful to the classic Chetak shape, with a full metal body construction retained for superior durability—a key differentiator in a market often dominated by plastic-bodied rivals. New artistic graphics and parametric design patterns add freshness, and the model features a more compact feel with a low 763mm seat height for easier accessibility.

Functional and Mechanical Updates

To optimize for affordability and urban use, the Chetak C25 switches to a hub-mounted electric motor (a first for the lineup), delivering 1.8kW continuous and 2.2kW peak power. It achieves a top speed of 55 kmph, ideal for city riding. Suspension comprises conventional telescopic front forks and twin rear shock absorbers, paired with 12-inch alloy wheels, a front disc brake, and rear drum setup.

Power comes from a floorboard-mounted 2.5 kWh NMC lithium-ion battery, offering a claimed IDC range of up to 113 km. Charging uses a 750W off-board charger, with 0-80% replenishment in about 2 hours 25 minutes and a full charge in roughly 3 hours 45 minutes. Practical touches include 25 litres of under-seat storage and features like hill-hold assist.

The scooter weighs in at around 108 kg (kerb), making it one of the lighter options in the segment for nimble handling in tight urban spaces.

Pricing, Availability, and Market Positioning

Priced at ₹91,399 (ex-showroom, Delhi/Bengaluru), the Chetak C25 undercuts the existing entry-level models in the 30 and 35 series, positioning it as the most affordable Chetak yet. It targets younger buyers (with 40% of current Chetak owners under 35) and first-time EV users seeking reliable, stylish urban mobility without premium pricing.

Bookings are open immediately, with nationwide availability at Chetak dealerships expected by February 2026. The model is offered in vibrant color options including Green, White, Black, Grey, Red, and Yellow.

This launch strengthens Bajaj’s push in India’s booming electric scooter market, where the company ranked second in sales for 2025 with nearly 270,000 units. By expanding the Chetak family with a budget-friendly yet premium-feeling variant, Bajaj aims to capture greater volume share against rivals like TVS, Ola Electric, Hero Vida, and Ather.

The next-generation Chetak C25 blends heritage design with modern EV practicality, reinforcing Bajaj’s commitment to sustainable two-wheeler mobility. More details on real-world performance and owner feedback will emerge as deliveries begin in the coming weeks
