Record 1.28 Million e-2Ws Sold in CY2025: TVS, Bajaj, Ather, and Hero Clock Best-Ever Retails

India’s electric two-wheeler (e-2W) segment has achieved a remarkable milestone in calendar year 2025, with retail sales reaching approximately 1.28 million units — a significant leap that underscores the growing adoption of electric mobility in the country. This represents an 11% year-on-year (YoY) growth compared to the 1.14 million units sold in CY2024, even as the overall EV market dynamics shifted with increased competition and evolving consumer preferences.

Electric scooters, motorcycles, and mopeds together accounted for nearly 56% of the total 2.27 million EVs sold across all zero-emission segments in CY2025 (up from around 59% share in CY2024, when e-2Ws contributed 1.14 million out of 1.95 million total EVs). While the segment’s relative share dipped slightly due to strong growth in other categories like electric three-wheelers and passenger vehicles, the absolute volumes highlight the continued dominance of affordable e-2Ws in driving India’s EV revolution.

Here are some of the standout performers in the e-2W space, with TVS Motor Co leading the charge:TVS Motor Co has emerged as the market leader in CY2025, dethroning previous dominants with a record 298,967 e-scooters sold. The company’s iQube range has been a key driver, benefiting from strong product reliability, expanding dealer networks, and consistent monthly performances.

Bajaj Auto also posted its best-ever annual figures with the iconic Chetak electric scooter, capitalizing on production recoveries, festive demand, and a focus on premium features.

Ather Energy delivered a stellar performance, achieving record annual sales with its premium 450X lineup, which saw strong growth through consistent innovations and urban appeal.

Hero MotoCorp and Greaves Electric Mobility rounded out the top performers, each hitting all-time high annual retails with models like the Vida VX2 gaining traction.

A major storyline in CY2025 was the dramatic fall of Ola Electric, which lost its three-year market leadership position and dropped to fourth place after a steep 51% sales decline. Persistent after-sales service issues, supply chain challenges, and intensified competition from legacy players contributed to this shift.

The broader EV industry crossed the 2 million milestone in November 2025, reaching 2.27 million total units by year-end — a testament to supportive policies, new model launches, and rising consumer interest in sustainable transport. While e-2Ws remain the volume driver, every sub-segment (including three-wheelers, passenger vehicles, and commercial EVs) achieved record annual sales in CY2025.This year marks a pivotal chapter in India’s journey toward electrification, with legacy manufacturers like TVS, Bajaj, Ather, and Hero proving that reliability, service networks, and value-driven products can reshape the market. As we head into 2026, expect even more innovation and competition to accelerate the shift to zero-emission mobility.
