Ferrari will preserve the iconic driving emotion that defines its brand while offering customers genuine choice, CEO Benedetto Vigna has affirmed. Speaking at IIT Bombay’s E-Summit 2025, the Italian luxury sports car maker’s chief executive confirmed that Ferrari plans to introduce electric vehicles without phasing out its traditional petrol (internal combustion) or hybrid powertrains.
Rather than committing to an all-electric future, Ferrari intends to run multiple powertrain strategies in parallel. “Today we are adding to our portfolio of cars – that is, combustion and hybrid – we are adding the electric cars,” Vigna explained. “We are not transitioning only to electric cars.
“This approach stands in contrast to many automakers pursuing aggressive, regulation-driven shifts to battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). Vigna emphasized that Ferrari’s strategy is “emotion-driven innovation,” rooted in understanding human needs rather than external timelines.
Vigna outlined three primary ways companies approach innovation: pushing new technology to market, waiting for customer demand to pull it forward, or starting from human emotions and desires. “What we are doing at Ferrari is the most important one,” he stated. “We need to start from human beings, understand their needs and address them in the right way.
“This philosophy underscores Ferrari’s commitment to maintaining the thrilling, engaging driving experience synonymous with the brand, even as it embraces electrification. The company’s first fully electric model is slated for unveiling in late 2025, with customer deliveries beginning in 2026. Prototypes have already accumulated thousands of kilometers in real-world testing, and early feedback from qualified test drivers – described as Ferrari’s “first clients” – has been positive regarding the preservation of that signature “Ferrari feeling.
“Ferrari has consistently reaffirmed its belief in “technological neutrality,” allowing customers to choose between internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid, and electric options based on preference. Hybrids currently account for over half of Ferrari’s sales, and the brand has no plans to abandon ICE models entirely.
While tightening global emissions regulations loom large for the industry, Ferrari’s strategy prioritizes brand authenticity and customer satisfaction. The addition of EVs will expand the lineup, potentially attracting new buyers – including younger, tech-savvy enthusiasts – without alienating traditionalists who cherish the roar and character of combustion engines.
Vigna’s remarks at the E-Summit, held on December 11-12, 2025, highlight Ferrari’s confidence in balancing heritage with progress. As the company prepares for its electric debut, it remains committed to delivering unparalleled performance, exclusivity, and emotion – regardless of the power source.
Ferrari’s multi-powertrain future ensures that the Prancing Horse will continue to evoke passion on the road for years to come.
