Kia Carens Clavis EV Real-World Range Test: 372 km Achieved from 490 km Claim

Kia India launched the Carens Clavis EV in July 2025, marking the brand’s entry into the electric seven-seat MPV segment. Priced from ₹17.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the Clavis EV is available in six variants and six colour options. Customers can choose between two battery packs: a 42 kWh unit and a larger 51.4 kWh pack. The version we tested was equipped with the bigger 51.4 kWh battery, which delivers 169 bhp and 255 Nm of torque to the front wheels. Kia claims a range of up to 490 km on a single charge for this configuration.

We put the top-spec HTX+ ER variant through CarWale’s standardised real-world range test protocol to find out how close the Clavis EV gets to its official claim in typical Indian conditions.

Test Conditions

  • Variant tested: HTX+ ER (51.4 kWh battery)
  • AC temperature: 24°C
  • Blower fan speed: Level 1
  • Drive mode: Normal
  • Regenerative braking: Level 1 (lightest)
  • Route: Mix of city traffic and highway stretches

These settings reflect everyday usage for most buyers – the AC was on (essential in Indian summers), but not aggressively cold, and regenerative braking was kept minimal to mimic a relaxed driving style.

Real-World ResultThe Kia Carens Clavis EV managed 372 km on a single charge before the battery was fully depleted. That translates to 75.9 per cent of Kia’s claimed 490 km range – a respectable figure for an electric MPV of this size and weight, especially when seven-seat family haulers typically see bigger drops between claimed and real-world numbers.

While 372 km is lower than the official claim, it still offers ample range for daily commutes, school runs, weekend getaways, and even occasional inter-city trips without range anxiety for most families. The gap largely comes from real-world factors such as traffic, frequent starts-stops, and the inevitable use of air-conditioning – all of which the Clavis EV handled reasonably well. For a deeper dive into the driving experience, features, space, and overall verdict, you can read our comprehensive first-drive review of the Kia Carens Clavis EV .

In a segment that is still finding its feet in India, the Carens Clavis EV proves that a practical, family-oriented electric MPV can deliver usable real-world range without too many compromises – making it a compelling option for buyers ready to go electric without sacrificing seats or boot space.
