Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast is all set to expand its India portfolio aggressively, with electric buses slated for launch by August 2026. The move will further strengthen the company’s growing presence in what it sees as one of its most important global markets.
Speaking on the development, VinFast Asia Chief Executive Officer Pham Sanh Chau said, “Electric buses play a very important role in transforming public transport from ICE-based buses to clean fuel. Our electric buses will be available in India by August 2026.”VinFast is already in active discussions with State Transport Undertakings (STUs) in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana to secure bulk orders for its upcoming e-bus range.
The company’s electric bus lineup includes models from 6 metres to 12 metres in length. These buses are already on sale in Vietnam and were recently introduced in select European markets. VinFast claims a single-charge range of up to 260 km, powered by a 281 kWh battery pack.
Rapid India Expansion Already Underway
VinFast made its official entry into the Indian passenger EV segment in September 2025 with the VF 6 and VF 7 electric SUVs. The brand has quickly built a network of around 26 dealerships across the country and is gearing up for a multi-segment assault in 2026.Next in line are electric two-wheelers, scheduled for launch in the second half of 2026, followed by the rollout of VinFast’s ride-hailing platform GSM (Green Smart Mobility) by August 2026 — the same month that will also mark the arrival of its electric buses. With electric cars, two-wheelers, ride-hailing, and now public-transport buses in its India roadmap, VinFast is positioning itself as a full-spectrum electric mobility player in one of the world’s fastest-growing EV markets.
The Vietnamese automaker’s aggressive timeline signals strong intent to capture a slice of India’s ambitious electrification goals, especially in the public and shared mobility segments where state governments are aggressively pushing for zero-emission fleets in the coming years.
