Ather Energy has officially brought its family-focused Rizta electric scooter to Sri Lanka, marking the Bengaluru-based EV maker’s second international launch in just over a year. The Rizta was unveiled at the Colombo Motor Show 2025 in partnership with Evolution Auto Pvt. Ltd, Ather’s authorized distributor on the island. The launch comes almost exactly one year after Ather first entered Sri Lanka in December 2024 with the flagship 450X.In the space of 11 months, Ather and Evolution Auto have already rolled out an impressive 40 experience centers across the country and begun deploying Ather Grid fast-charging stations, giving the brand a solid foundation before introducing its second, more practical model.
Built for Families, Built for Sri LankaPositioned as the “family scooter” in Ather’s lineup, the Rizta directly addresses the needs of multi-member households that dominate Sri Lankan two-wheeler usage. Key highlights include:
- Class-leading 34-liter under-seat storage (big enough for two full-face helmets or a full grocery run)
- A flat, wide floorboard for extra legroom and easy loading of bags
- SkidControl (Ather’s traction control system) for safer riding in wet tropical conditions
- FallSafe (emergency stop detection and automatic SOS alerts)
- The top-spec Rizta Z gets a 7-inch deepView TFT dashboard with built-in Google Maps navigation, music playback, call management, and WhatsApp message read-outs
While exact pricing for Sri Lanka is yet to be confirmed, expect the Rizta to slot below the 450X, making it a direct rival to the Honda Dio, TVS Ntorq, and Yamaha Ray ZR in the premium petrol family-scooter segment, but with zero running costs and instant torque.
Rapid International Expansion
Sri Lanka becomes the second overseas market for Ather after Nepal, where the company entered in November 2023. Today, Ather operates 9 experience centers and 7 service stations in Nepal. Back home in India, the brand has scaled aggressively: as of 30 September 2025, Ather has 524 experience centers and an industry-leading network of 3,643 Ather Grid fast chargers. With the Rizta now on sale in Sri Lanka, Ather is clearly betting that its combination of family-friendly design, proven fast-charging infrastructure, and smartphone-like software experience can win over buyers in South Asia’s petrol-dominated markets. The message from Colombo is clear: the Indian EV unicorn isn’t just exporting scooters; it’s exporting an entire ecosystem, one family at a time.
