In a rapidly evolving electric vehicle landscape, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is positioning itself as a frontrunner in India’s zero-emission mobility sector. With two EVs on the cusp of commercial debut after rigorous public road testing, the automaker is set to bolster its portfolio significantly by the close of 2025. Leading the charge is the much-anticipated XEV 7e, a three-row electric SUV that promises to redefine family-oriented electrification, while an undisclosed new model slated for a November unveiling will mark the company’s fourth EV offering.
The XEV 7e: India’s First Electric Three-Rower Takes Shape
At the heart of Mahindra’s near-term EV strategy is the XEV 7e, essentially the electrified counterpart to the blockbuster XUV700. This normally styled SUV mirrors the XEV 9e’s architecture but expands into three-row seating, filling a critical gap in the market for spacious, all-electric family haulers. First teased through the XUV.e8 concept back in August 2022, the XEV 7e is poised to become India’s inaugural locally manufactured electric SUV with seven seats—a milestone that underscores Mahindra’s commitment to domestic innovation and sustainability.
Recent spy shots and testing footage reveal a vehicle that’s not just ready for roads but refined for real-world demands. The XEV 7e borrows powertrain elements from its larger sibling, the XEV 9e, potentially offering two battery variants: a standard-range 59 kWh LFP pack delivering around 228 hp and an estimated 500 km range, and a long-range 79 kWh option pushing up to 282 hp with a claimed 600 km on a single charge. Both setups support DC fast charging, ensuring minimal downtime for long journeys. Priced competitively between ₹20-30 lakh (ex-showroom), it will square off against emerging rivals like the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Line and Tata Harrier EV.
Inside, expect a tech-laden cabin akin to the XUV700, featuring a dual-screen setup, a 1,400-watt Harman Kardon audio system with Dolby Atmos, Level 2+ ADAS, and practical touches like a frunk and kick-sensor tailgate. Mahindra’s extensive testing on public roads—spotted charging at stations and navigating urban traffic—signals that final tweaks are underway, with a debut eyed for late 2025 or early 2026. This positions the XEV 7e as a direct electric alternative to the ICE-powered XUV700, appealing to buyers seeking greener options without compromising on space or versatility.
November Surprise: Fourth EV to Cap a Stellar 2025
Mahindra isn’t stopping at the XEV 7e. In a recent CNBC-TV18 interaction, Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of M&M’s Automotive Division, dropped hints of an “exciting” new EV reveal in November 2025. While details remain under wraps, this launch will expand the brand’s zero-emission lineup to four models, capping a transformative year for the company.
The EV journey kicked off with the compact XUV400 in 2023, followed by the bold BE 6 and premium XEV 9e earlier in 2025. These “Electric Origin” SUVs have already driven EV bookings to 8% of total sales, up from 2-3% at launch, with Gollagunta forecasting a climb to high-teens market share in the long term. The November addition—speculated by industry watchers to possibly be a sub-4m offering like the XUV 3XO EV or even an accelerated XEV 7e rollout—aligns with Mahindra’s aggressive festive momentum, where SUV retail sales surged 60% during Navratri.
Gollagunta emphasized the dual-track approach: sustaining ICE dominance with a Q4 2025 launch while ramping up EVs to capture tier-2 city growth. “We’re accelerating our transition in this fast-growing space,” he noted, highlighting GST 2.0 incentives as a booster for adoption.
A Broader Vision for Electrified Mobility
Mahindra’s EV blitz reflects a broader ambition under its Global Vision 2027, blending cutting-edge tech like BYD-sourced batteries with homegrown manufacturing. As competitors like Tata and Hyundai intensify their plays, the XEV 7e and November newcomer could propel M&M toward 8-10% EV booking penetration short-term, with eyes on 20% overall.
With deliveries of the BE 6 and XEV 9e already underway since mid-March 2025, priced from ₹18.90 lakh and ₹21.90 lakh respectively, Mahindra is building buzz through campaigns like “Unlimit Bharat.” For families and urban adventurers alike, 2025 promises to be the year Mahindra truly electrifies Indian roads—one SUV at a time. Stay tuned for the November reveal, which could very well be the spark that ignites even greater adoption.
